Hotel in Alexandria: New Year's Eve

The hotel was dressed up to the nines to welcome in the new year. From the ball room to the formal garden overlooking the ocean, everywhere was awash in new year's celebrations.

There was plenty of room to party, and plenty of rooms for when the partying was done. Add that to the open bar, and it might be one heck of an interesting night.

Anemone had the grace to look mildly ashamed of herself. "Hiding in my room, mostly. There was the family invasion weekend and then plague, and then I just needed space from people. Although you should see the pile of pictures I've done. I'm running out of wall space."

"Like I'd ever need convincing to want to look at your pictures," A.J. said with a light smile, ducking his head a bit to show his apology that she'd been kind of having a rough time by the sounds of it. He gave her another quick squeeze before commenting, "You look like you're pretty ready to buck that trend tonight, though, hm? Uhhh, the hiding one. Not the drawing like crazy one. I don't want to speak on the part of the hotel 'cause I don't know what they'd think about you wallpapering their reception hall."

"Didn't you hear? I already took my sidewalk chalk to the walls of their swimming pool," she deadpanned. "Yeah, need for dancing wins out over my too quiet room. Besides, I heard all the cute boys were going to be here tonight."

"Really?" A.J. asked, grinning lopsidedly as he pretended to perk up especially at that last part, before taking an idle glance around. "Where?"

Anemone rolled her eyes and poked at his side. "You, dork, among others. It's not like our school is hurting for pretty people."

"I haven't actually defaced hotel property yet..." She looked too gleeful to be pondering anything non-destructive. "But I do have chalks in my bag. Did you get a room here, or are you heading back tonight?"

A.J. may have giggled a little (yes, giggled) at the poke to the stomach and the compliment that he was included among the pretty. His grin was beaming as he listened to Anemone's gleeful aspirations and then shrugged his shoulders. "Didn't really think about it. I guess I planned on heading back, riding on the assumption that if I wasn't in the condition, someone who was staying would let me crash on their floor."

"I'd offer you a spot on my floor, but I'd have to clear it with the one who rented the room." Anemone looked around before shrugging. "Cant' see, too many tall people...I'll find him later. We can always rescue my supplies and slip away for the sake of art before the ball drops."

"Oooo! Yes! New art for a new year!" She bounced excitedly, clearly thrilled with the idea. "I have a resolution, and we'll make art, and all sorts of stuff. "This year is totally going to be better than last year."

"Oh, I totally agree," A.J. nodded, his face in the expression of utmost seriousness and importance. "I mean, hell, I graduate this year. Class of 2008, all the way, except for the part where it actually will sound really bad when I say that when I go back to 1995."

"That's right, you're a senior." Anemone made a face. "I'm jealous. You get to graduate, I get stuck with the kids. Do you have any idea how embarrassing it is to tell people I'm seventeen and a sophomore?"

"Well," A.J. said, wrinkling his nose back at her for a moment before appearing thoughtful, "just take comfort in the fact that, technically, if I go back to where I came from, it'll seem like I was pushing thirty when I graduated?"

"True!" The potential of someone else facing mild embarrassment made her grin. "Whereas if I go home, I managed to graduate before anyone alive was born. Cool!"

"I'll take you home with me sometime, then you can be cool too," she teased, any attempt to sound serious also ruined by her giggles. "It'll be fun, I'll take you flying."

"No way," A.J. said, chuckling. "For one thing, I like my feet firmly on the ground. For another, River already has first dibs on taking me flying, I'm sorry."

"Alas, passed over in favor of River!" Anemone pretended to swoon, which was probably ruined by the continued giggling. "How shall I ever repair my fragile self-esteem?"

A.J. eyed Anemone to let her know that he wasn't believe it for a minute. "I have no idea," he deadpanned. "I'm sure it will take you years upon years upon years."

"I guess I'll just have to put all the emo into my art, drink heavily, or seduce my date. Or all of the above, it is New Year's, after all." Somehow, she managed to say all of it with a perfectly straight face and no giggling. Barely.

"True!" Anemone perked up and stared looking around before turning her attention to A.J. speculatively. "Sooooo...where's your date?"

"No, wait, bad Anemone. I promised John I wasn't going to go around kissing any more boys." She looked at him woefully. "Can I seduce someone without kissing them?"
