Haddyn: 200 years in the Future (Day Three)

And so our heroes have broken up into smaller groups.

One to rescue Dawn and stop Harth from whatever he had planned.

The other to protect the Watcher building and allow Willow to cast her spell.

"Hold this one," Zuko told Katara as he realised the vampires were coming the other way as well. He jumped back down and punched a volley of flames towards any vampires that were poking their heads over the walls.

There were bursts of flame and screams as the lurks exploded into ash, but more lurks took their place and a few made it to the top of the roof and dove for cover from the fire.

Katara saw a few of those out of the corner of her eye and slid to the side to flip a waterwhip at those protected from the fire, trying to dump them right off the roof.

The drenched lurks ran out from their cover screaming. A couple dissolved into ashes but some ran some ran directly at Zuko and some at Katara trying to eliminate to forces that were keeping them at bay.

Zuko didn't wait to let them get close, he immediately kicked a wide arch of fire towards them, hoping to catch as many as he could.

The vampires exploded into ashes as more took their places at the edge of the wall.

She smirked, seeing the vampires balancing on the edge of the walls and summoned a thick waterwhip, snapping at them and using the force of the water to try to push as many as possible back into thin air.

Vampires were launched into the air and screamed as they made the three story drop to the ground.

Others, who were able to avoid the whip but not the splashing of the holy water, snarled in pain as they approched the young benders.

"They don't seem to get it, do they?" Zuko growled, taking a step back towards Katara. He took a deep breath and used both hands to create a large flame, he didn't throw it right away however, but expanded it as much as he could before pushed it out towards the vampires.

They certainly didn't. Even with the giant flame that Zuko had created the lurks continued to rush at them.

And burst into flame.

"Probably haven't seen bending before," she replied shortly, frowning as more and more came over the walls. Another swoop of her arms, and she pulled up tentacles of water around her, lashing out at the approaching vampires.

The lurks continued to rush at the two benders but word had past down to the other vampires who were now bringing up rocks and various items to throw at them.

Zuko punched and kicked around him, sending flames around to protect the space that was getting nearer. He caught a few of the vampires reaching the roof with the rocks and quickly, using a move he'd seen Katara use that weekend, he sent a firewhip that them to push them off the ledge.

More vampires exploded into ashes and fell off the wall at the benders' coordinated.

One lurk landed on a cabbage cart on the street below, making the merchant shriek and despair.

He was quickly eaten.

Katara stared for half a second at Zuko's move that was definitely more waterbending than firebending but swiftly turned her attention back to whipping the water around her, trying to clear the lurks who'd gotten weapons away from her and Zuko.

The lurks either flew to the ground screaming or exploded into dust around them.

No more lurks attempted to crawl over the rooftop... however below the lurks had started to set fire to the building and smoke was beginning to billow from the base.

The fire had already began to consume the first floor of the building.

Zuko didn't need to smoke to feel the energy of the fire below.

"They're trying to burn us alive," he sneered, annoyed that they were trying to use his element against him. He didn't wait and hurtled down the stairs towards the fire, trusting Katara to follow him. Or not. He was pissed off and the fire around them was spreading further as they made it to the first floor. He didn't try to control it however, not yet, as he knew the vampires would just start coming again.

"Stay close," he barked at Katara before closing his eyes to concentrate and he pushed the flames outward, sending a blaze at any vampire that was too close to the building.

From outside the building screams were heard as the remaining vampired began to explode into ashes as they were caught in the expanding flames.

Katara hadn't needed any instructions from Zuko to throw herself after him as he ran down the stairs. Once there, she stayed close enough to keep away from the fires inside the building.

Spinning around, she started pulling water from her waterskins, using it to sweep through the inside, dousing the flames before they had a chance to burn further into the building.

Zuko needed to catch his breath for a moment, but then he started helping Katara but trying to diminish the flames around them.

She glanced around as steam and smoke of the dying fires filled the air, looking for more vampires approaching.

Puling the water back to her, she glanced at Zuko. "Hear anything else?"

He stilled for a moment, still ready to fight. "No," he replied after listening carefully for a while.

Katara nodded. "Me either. Wonder if they'll try to come back."

Zuko lowered his hand, but he still seemed on edge. "If they're really dumb."

"Not after Willow and Mel take care of everything," Katara said softly, glancing from him back to the smoking ruins of the first floor.
