Scotland, 2004--Sunday Morning, Main Kitchen

The kitchen was fully stocked with breakfast items. Oatmeal, bacon, sausages, eggs, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, potatoes, plus the makings for pancakes or waffles, if someone was so inclined. For the less alive crowd, there were also bags of orangutan and pig's blood in the refrigerator. Probably best not to ask how those got there so quickly.

Dawn was contemplating the ingredients and wondering if she wanted to attempt to make some scones.

[ooc: Last Scotland post! NFB and open to everyone here. No OCD. Departure portal will be handwaved, unless people want a post to say goodbyes.]

River was up early as usual, and was assembling a plate mixed with everything. While eating she began to mix pancake batter, humming cheerfully to herself. Looking in the fridge, she found some of the pig's blood and contemplated adding it. She'd been served that on one of the planets they'd visited recently after all.

"In pancakes. It's good, I've tried it." River grinned at Dawn and prepared to pour some blood into the batter.

"He would?" River looked interested. She poured some blood into the her bowl, making the contents turn red. "Lots of places where they cook with blood. Can't waste anything. Very nourishing."

"Fresher than processed protein." She stirred the batter and poured it into one of the frying pans. "But there is plenty of other food here though." River looked quite happy.

"Pure protein. Lasts forever. Useful on spaceships, but doesn't taste much." She made a face. "And Serenity was good. I am allowed to be of more help now, although that worries Simon a little." She sighed. "He should let Kaylee distract him." She smiled a little at Dawn. "I like it here."

"Because it involves situations where I might have to fight. Where I might get hurt. He's still not used to that. He's still not used to me being better." She flipped the pancake that hand now turned into a dark reddish brown. "Don't think he knows what to do."

"It's a good family. Thank you for inviting me."

"We robbed a bank," River explained. "And sold stolen goods to some criminals on a small moon. They didn't plan to pay. And you're right, a little like yours. You should come visiting some time." She added with a chuckle: "And bring your Buffy."

"We could tell Buffy it was perfectly legitimate business," River suggested, grinning. "And yes, she's different. She's like an older sister."

"Perhaps she's too clever," River replied. "But it would still be entertaining."

"Maybe that can make up for participating in criminal activities?"

River tried to imagine the crew of Serenity reacting to that and burst out giggling.

The look on Dawn's face made River giggle even more.

"I... will... help," River managed before the giggling made her collapse on the floor.
