Scotland, 2004--Sunday Morning, Main Kitchen

The kitchen was fully stocked with breakfast items. Oatmeal, bacon, sausages, eggs, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, potatoes, plus the makings for pancakes or waffles, if someone was so inclined. For the less alive crowd, there were also bags of orangutan and pig's blood in the refrigerator. Probably best not to ask how those got there so quickly.

Dawn was contemplating the ingredients and wondering if she wanted to attempt to make some scones.

"Perhaps she's too clever," River replied. "But it would still be entertaining."

"It would! Plus, she'd get to be on a spaceship and meet your family."

"Maybe that can make up for participating in criminal activities?"

"Yeeeeah, um, Buffy's not so big on criminal activities. She'd probably make me go back and apologize."

River tried to imagine the crew of Serenity reacting to that and burst out giggling.

"It's happened before," Dawn complained.

The look on Dawn's face made River giggle even more.

"You're not helping," Dawn made a face at River.

"I... will... help," River managed before the giggling made her collapse on the floor.

Dawn just looked down at River, her hands on her hips, and shook her head.

When River finally managed to stop the seemingly uncontrollable laughter she looked up at Dawn. "I think it's a good plan."

Dawn offered a hand down to her. "I'm so glad you approve," she said dryly. "Does this mean I shouldn't plan an apology?"

"No apologies necessary," River replied, still grinning, as she accepted Dawn's help to get to her feet.

"Are you coming back afterwards, or do you still have stuff to do on Serenity?" Dawn asked, looking through cupboards for a pan.

"Have to go back to Serenity." She gave Dawn a mysterious smile. "Have plans."

"Good plans, or getting of school because you've been arrested plans?" Dawn asked, desperately curious.

"Good plans," River replied, looking secretive. "Will tell you when I get back. Surprise."

"I'll be good and wait." Which didn't keep her from still wanting to know, but River obviously wanted to keep things secret.

River liked keeping secrets, which might be a little unfair, as very few could keep secrets from her.

Dawn sucked at keeping secrets anyway, so it wasn't like River wouldn't have found any of hers out eventually.
