Scotland, June 2004

Saturday was hazy and humid and warm, but still better than Virginia.

"Tough," Spike said gruffly. "You think worrying about you is a part time job? It's not something I get to shut off."

"Could," she said sullenly. "Not your job, right? You're the Big Bad."

"Didn't you hear?" Spike smirked. "Somehow I became a champion. Now I have to invest in hairgel and be extra broody."

Dawn rolled her eyes. "Don't do that. Please? Be your own kind of champion, whatever the hell that is."

"Still trying to figure that one out," Spike admitted. "But I'm never going to stop worrying about you Summers. You girls seem to bring out some kind of protective streak in me."

"That's very sweet, right up until you get all smothery and stalkery and try to kill my boyfriend," Dawn noted, "and hey, did you say something about breakfast?"

"You're the only family I got Nibblet. I'll kill your boyfriend and smothery when the time calls for it."

Spike looked over at the tray of food which was now pretty much on the floor and beyond the five second rule.

"Want me to get more for you and hair-boy?"

"That's so disturbing I don't even know what to say," Dawn said as she went to hug him. "And no, we'll grab something later."

Spike returned the hug and leaned back to look at Dawn. "It's good to see you. Even if it does mean getting pummeled by you two days in a row."

"You should have called. Big dummy," she hugged him more.

Spike gave Dawn some very light knuckle rubbing on the top of her head.

"Well... for a couple of months I was pretty much Kaspar the Friendly Ghoul. I was just a ghost. Couldn't pick up anything let alone a phone. But the next time I get resurrected after an apocalypse I'll make sure to call collect."

"Stop that," she nudged him with her elbow in return for the noogie, "and I want to hear that story. You should write it in letters, or e-mails. You are sticking around, right?"

"Depends. Whole bunch of slayers around here with itchy trigger stakes," Spike said seriously. "Not exactly sure if this new council wants a vampire hanging around."

"I don't know if I get a vote, but I definitely do. Want you hanging around, I mean." Yes. Here in Scotland where he could annoy and keep an eye on Buffy and absolutely not be in Fandom harassing Sam. Good plan.

"We'll see what your sister and Rupert say," Spike replied. "If anything I'll just move to Virginia and watch your every move."

He's teasing. Really.

Dawn stared at him in horror. "What do I have to do to not have that happen?"
