St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Tuesday Morning and Afternoon

But for anyone who actually wanted to get out of the hotel, there was plenty to do today. The morning program for Fandom was filled with an introductory look at the Habitat for Humanity housing project they'd be working on all week. It was a little out of the city center, on an abandoned plot the local chapter had found. Some of the houses were already a little further along - others weren't much more than a few stacks of wooden planks. There would be plenty to do, and the help was needed.

There was plenty to do in the afternoons too, however. Shopping trips and hiking trails were available to anyone who might be interested.

Of course, you could always just wander around town on your own... but it was still a little rainy.

Annie had never done anything like this, so she thought she should start off easy. Which meant painting. When she asked how she could help, she was given some paint and an area to work on, and quickly took to it with a brush.

She was even possibly being more careful to make it perfect than the people who were here normally. Shh, it was a thing with her.

Dolf... had never done anything like this before. Painting was a nice way to start off, while he kept an eye on what everyone else was doing. Just to see what he might be able to do tomorrow.

Simon chose to start off easy, by helping out with painting. He'd even worn some clothes he wouldn't mind getting paint on for the task.

He painted with great concentration, making sure it was all as close to perfect as he could get it. He just wanted to do a good job.

Bruce had done some carpentry in the past, but he had never really helped frame a house. It was a new experience, and one that he was learning from quickly.

Sam was supposed to have a date tonight but he wasn't sure that would go off since Natalie hadn't been at her best yesterday. So, he figured he could get a little dirty beforehand and just shower afterward if the date still went off.

He'd never helped with drywall before but after getting a crash course in it, he got to work with a few other people and yes, he was definitely getting dirty.

Seifer let one of the people on the site give him a quick run down of exactly what they were doing, and then he joined right in.

They'd have this done in no time.

Given a choice, Cara preferred to have something that would tax her muscles, so hauling around timber it was.

Lex supposed his father would point out it was better all around for a Luthor to only contribute financially to something like this, so it was with great satisfaction that he picked up a brush and can of paint.

Nathan...was not going to be helping build shit if he could help it. Nope, as soon as he'd pulled his ass out of bed, he'd headed into the city and amazingly found an Irish pub (http://www.dayinstjohns.com/food/143258/kellys-pub) that was open already.

Feeling right at home with his brethren, he took up a seat, popped out one of his many fake ID's and got to work on his vacation complete with food and Irish ale.

Rilla was painting a wall with more enthusiasm than skill, and had a drip of paint in her hair that she hadn't noticed yet.

Jims was tucked into his basket in an out-of-the-way corner of the room. No one in 1914 worried about things like paint fumes affecting brain development.

Let's face it, Cassel would have been forcibly thrown out of his family if he voluntarily helped people he didn't know for free. He slipped away as soon as he got up and decided to explore the city for a bit, starting with the shops.

It seemed like there were enough people working on the painting, and hauling around lumber wasn't really Quinn's style. (Not that manual labor in general was, but there was this whole thing about setting a good example.) She put on a pair of coveralls, watched the demonstration, then started helping with the drywall.

The dust in her hair? Totally an excuse to use the airtub again before she headed out for the night.
