Spa at the Monastery, St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador, Tuesday Morning & Afternoon

It had become colder overnight. The odd raincloud drifted past, drizzling on the area until it decided to go its merry way again.

While there was plenty to do in town, the hotel's facilities were still open and available to anyone who decided to stay in rather than head down to the project or explore the town. Spa treatments, good food, and comfortable beds awaited anyone who decided to go for that option.

Wake up, Fandomites - it's your first full day on vacation!

Spa at the Monastery - Room 32

[personal profile] lockestheway 2011-10-11 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
While everyone else was slaving away elsewhere, Peter was in his room, drafting up his latest essay. Locke was needed more and more, and sometimes he even forgot to check in with Valentine about what he was doing.

Exciting times.

And he was stuck in freaking Canada.

Anakin had a long day of building things ahead of him, which was why he was hogging the bathtub now.

Or so he was telling himself. Mmm, massaging tub.

Bruce was going to hit the spa's treadmills bright and early all week and see if he could wear them out. It was unlikely, sure, but a guy had to have goals.

Anyway, that's what he was doing right now, before it was time to go to the building project.

Susan didn't often pamper herself. She thought it was, for the most part, pointless. But she figured if she was someplace with spa right in the name, maybe they could do something with her hair for once.*

She didn't realize anything was wrong until the hairstylist screamed and backed away. Susan, being Susan, calmly decided there couldn't possibly be anything in the foot of space between her head and the hairstylist's working space to be afraid of, so she opened her mouth to ask what was wrong-

And caught sight in the mirror of her hair unwinding from what had just been done to it, resuming its normal slightly electrocuted look. All on its own.**

Well. That was new.

Managing to keep herself nice and calm in the face- so to speak- of self-styling hair, Susan gave the stylist a half-hearted smile and said, "Bad hair day."

*Spoiler: Not possible.
**See?

True to her word, Ramona was not working on the thingie today, but instead getting her nails done.

And her feet wrapped.

And her face facialed.

And her hair relaxed, which was the only downside. When all was said and done and she looked in the mirror, she gave a little gasp of displeasure. "What did you do?"

"I...thought you wanted me to take it all out," the stylist said, frowning. "You said to give you the works. That's your natural hair color!"

Ramona was on vacation, with no dye, and newly-brunette hair.

Fucking Canada.

Despite having slept a little poorly, Natalie felt a bit better this morning than she had last night. It was still not her Canada but she was dealing with that.

She was still pretty sure she was going to choose time spent alone over doing any building work today, but for now, she was having a pineapple raspberry smoothie for breakfast in the restaurant. That was sort of like socializing, wasn't it?

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla had been well-trained at home to eat three meals a day, which meant she was down bright and early for breakfast, Jims in his usual travel basket in her arms.

"Good morning," she said, smiling. "What did you find to drink?"
whenshewasnice: (A great many things.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-11 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
... There was a girl with a baby talking to Natalie. Another member of the student council, even, if she remembered correctly.

There was a slight raise of her eyebrow, then of her glass. "Smoothie. Raspberry and pineapple."

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think I've ever tried a pineapple," Rilla said with a light frown. "Is it good? Probably, if you're still drinking it."

She sighed. "I'm babbling. I apologize."
whenshewasnice: (That's a stupid plan.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-11 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't worry about it," Natalie said, even if she wasn't a fan of people babbling at her. It was early. She wasn't running at full speed yet.

She inclined her head at the glass. "It's fine."

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think I might just stick to tea and toast," Rilla said. "And eggs. And perhaps some fruit."

She was, regrettably, a morning person.
whenshewasnice: ([neu] Here now gone tomorrow.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-11 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Whereas Natalie wasn't really any time of day kind of person. Or a people person. This was going to go well.

"Really," she replied, perhaps a little dryly. "Well... Good for you."

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day," Rilla chirped at her, jostling the basket a bit as Jims began to fuss. "Are you volunteering this morning too?"
whenshewasnice: (In a second I'll be annoyed.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-11 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Haven't decided yet," Natalie replied, eyeing the basket perhaps a little warily. "Maybe."

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've never used a hammer in my life," Rilla confessed cheerily. "Oh, this is Jims. He's hungry for breakfast too. Well, another breakfast. He was up hours ago."
whenshewasnice: (What are you saying?)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-11 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is that your kid?"

If Rilla was going to be cheery at her, she was going not going to bother with not being blunt with her questions.

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, goodness no," Rilla said. "I'm just watching him until his father returns from the front. His mother died a few weeks after giving birth."

She said that in a tone that implied everyone would do this sort of thing, when really...no.
whenshewasnice: (Also this whole thing reeks.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-11 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no. Also...

"The front?"

Excuse Natalie for looking just a little confused.

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla nodded. "France, we think. Mr. Anderson hasn't exactly written back since Reverend Meredith sent the letter telling him about Mrs. Anderson's passing."

Rilla realized the cause of the disconnect a moment later. "There's a war in Europe," she added. "In 1914."

whenshewasnice: (That's a stupid plan.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-11 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Unsurprisingly, Natalie knew about that war. It was just that many other wars had passed since then.

So it was about as unsurprising that her reaction was a delayed, slow "... Right." Which wasn't disbelief, and more like 'right, I forgot this could happen'. "You're from the past."

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla nodded. "But Father says the war should be over by Christmas." She was beginning to think was wishful thinking, judging by the latest (for her, anyway) headlines.
whenshewasnice: (Nothing particular.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-11 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Natalie's knowledge of history said no. What a novel moral dilemma. Thankfully, it didn't feel like her place to say things like sorry, that war's gonna drag on another few years.

"Maybe," she said, noncommittally. "Hopefully?"

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla nodded, biting her lower lip. "My eldest brother is already on his way to England. I'd be heartbroken if my other brothers have to go as well."
whenshewasnice: (Judging your worth.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-11 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Must be hard." Yeah, Natalie was kind of at her wits end as to what to say. "Sorry."

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla smiled at her. "It's hardly the topic for a vacation. Have you been to Canada before?"

Time in Fandom had led her to think that most people had never even heard of Canada.
whenshewasnice: (Hide in plain sight.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-12 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Natalie didn't smile, though she gave a slight nod. "I'm from Montreal." So, yes. She was both aware of Canada's existence, and had been there before!

Excpet not in this version, but that wasn't quite breakfast talk, either.

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, so do you speak French?" Rilla asked excitedly. "William does, but mine is absolutely terrible."
whenshewasnice: (A great many things.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-12 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"I do," Natalie said. "It was kind of a thing back home."

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Have you met William yet?" Rilla asked. "I'm sure he'd love to speak to you. There aren't that many of us Canadians around."

The less said about Dave's weird obsession with Canadian spies, the better, Rilla felt.
whenshewasnice: (Some time off.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-12 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Natalie definitely agreed with her on that point. Because it was weird. Weird, weird, weird.

She shook her head, briefly. "I don't think I've met him." She kept to herself for the most part. "I'll keep an eye out for him."

Maybe.

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"He's usually easy enough to spot," Rilla told her helpfully. "He always wears a hat outdoors."

And he looks like...

"Oh, and he has dark hair and eyes and is really frightfully handsome."
whenshewasnice: (Your lips are moving.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-12 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Frightfully handsome," Natalie repeated with just the faintest hint of amusement. "Right. Your boyfriend or something?"

'Or something' was her guess. What with the baby and the time period and everything.

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla blushed. "Just a friend," she said, "though he's escorted me to a few dances as well."
whenshewasnice: (Casual comfort.)

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[personal profile] whenshewasnice 2011-10-12 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ooh." It was a rather sarcastic little 'ooh'. Sorry, Rilla. "Suppose that's a lot for when you're from."

Re: Spa at the Monastery - The Abbey Restaurant

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-10-12 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla nodded. "Much more and people at home would start talking about matches and weddings and I'm fifteen and not at all ready for that."

[identity profile] withasword.livejournal.com 2011-10-11 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Kate didn't sleep well at the best of times. In a strange place, she was worse.

Which would be why she was in the lobby skimming a book at ungodly o'clock in the morning. It was a better idea than keeping her new roommate up half the night.

Bart stood outside the front door and took a deep breath. It was cold. He hadn't planned for that. In a scarlet blur he ran up to his room and back down, this time with big red earmuffs and a yellow scarf. Better.

He had a plan, though. This was a plan to be awesome. To have fun. To do what he wanted to do to relax.

He had a plan to build the best snow fort in the history of snow forts.

He had to remember to not run on the snow, though. Bad things happen when you run too fast on snow.
