The evening weather was warmer tonight than it had been for most of the week, as if the Big Island knew its guests from a smaller island would be leaving soon, and wanted to help them make the most of their final days in the tropics. From the beach near the hotel came the oddly un-jarring scent combination of hibiscus flowers and roast pork, as the Friday Night Luau started to swing.

Just another luau? Think again! A Polynesian blend of traditional and modern choreography, music and performance built around a feast fit for the ali'i (royalty). Island Breeze Productions and The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii partner together to bring the story of the settlement of Samoa, Tahiti, Aotearoa (New Zealand) and Hawaii to you, with "islands" of food representing these islands before the performance.

Since it was pretty much the last full night of the trip, Percy figured that hitting up the luau was a necessity. Now, he could say he'd been to one and even better, he found himself enjoying this one.

There was music, food, drinks and it was outside near the beach. There was really nothing better in Percy's opinion.

After taking a nap, Bod was rested enough to head down to the luau. Hey, the sun took a lot out of a guy with skin like this. He'd needed the rest.

With a drink in hand, he found himself particularly taken with the music and performance but he wasn't going to be shy about eating the free food either. Not shy at all.

Tara came out to the luau. She even let one of the hostesses giver her a lei, which she'd immediately twisted up and around to form a kind of crown in her hair.

She filled a plate and stood back to watch the dancers.

...so much food. So much. Even Kennedy looked daunted by the amount of food, but that wasn't going to stop her from enjoying the hell out of this luau. She was more than a little sorry to see the week wind down, though she had to admit there was something appealing about getting back to her routine, too; the weird looks she'd been getting at the resort gym during her workouts (apparently people didn't get why a girl her size was that into such an aggressive training regimen?) had been amusing, but they were getting kind of old.

She had a plate piled with food, a festively garnished drink, and a very pleased grin on her face as she settled in to watch the performance. She might not be as impressed by it as some people would, but like she was turning down entertainment.

Wes was there, and pretty chipper after a day of watching an awful movie. And hey, unlike at that Fandom luau a couple months back, he was pretty sure that this one wouldn't be followed by crazy snow. He hated crazy snow.

So. Eating and enjoying himself. And maybe he could be persuaded to dance. Hey, he'd surfed this week.

And lo, at the luau there was a Stephanie, who was trying very hard not to let her eyes bug out of her head at the festivities.

She was also, it had to be admitted, keeping a wary eye out in case anyone suddenly started exhibiting weird behavior of the kind that might be traced back to wearing some weird piece of jewelry that was possessing them with some primal force. Yeah, yeah, that had only happened the once at Tim's father's wedding, but it could happen again! Right?

Ender was not exactly a party animal, but the idea of a performance endemic to several cultures interested him enough to draw him out. Un-lei'd, and with a plate full of food that probably wasn't going to get more than two-thirds empty today, he took a seat and watched.

It was a luau, and Emma was dressed to kill had been lei'd a number of times in the first hour.

She snapped a picture of herself bedecked with flowers with her phone to send to Peter with a message; 'missing out, Bishop.'

Oh yes, she'd make the 'lei'd' pun and inflict it on Peter. He'd appreciate it!

Dolf had no idea what a luau was, but that was fine. New experiences weren't a bad thing. Still, he might have shown a little caution upon entry-- which was promptly rewarded with a lei.

At which point his attitude turned towards the happily resigned and he took a seat and partook of pork.

Mmm, pork.

Sookie, dressed in a fairly luau-friendly dress (http://www.edressme.com/party-dress-amelie.html) and with a hibiscus pinned behind her ear, meandered into the luau and found herself something pink and fruity to drink before taking a look at the array of food.

Puck didn't have any Hawaiian shirts or anything, but he did have a short-sleeve button up that he hadn't exactly felt obligated to button up entirely, as it were, and that was what he wore to the luau, along with a pair of boardshorts.

But who cared what he wore? There was food. There was fire. And he had a beer? Life was good, okay?

Jason hadn't dressed up for the luau, but he didn't think that was a big deal. Considering how much food was on his plate, the risk of spilling something on himself was large enough that jeans and a t-shirt were probably a good idea. Hopefully, no one would think he was a pig, but diving into free food was a hard habit to break.

Lindsay was not going to leave Hawaii without attending a luau first. So, with drink in hand, she was enjoying the performance and the music. The free food wasn't so bad either.

This was Nathan's second luau in as many months and he couldn't say he minded that too much. Just like the last one, there was free food and drinks but unlike the last one, they were in fucking Hawaii this time.

He hadn't spent this much time on a beach in fucking ever but he didn't mind that either. He was still overdressed though he'd shucked shoes for the night because getting sand in his shoes was fucking uncomfortable and stupid. He'd made a nice pile outside his hotel room a few nights because of that.

"I can't dance like that so don't even ask," he said to Caroline (who'd amazingly agreed to come with him tonight). "I think that one bloke's gonna have a seizure any minute."

Like Ariel could ever turn herself away from a party like this! She was particularly interested in the dancing, watching with fascination and trying to figure out how to do it herself. She was positive she'd have it by the end of the night...

Katniss wasn't exactly the flowery sort, but she took the lei she was given all the same. Her fascination and attention went to the people with the fire, though. Nicknames at home were one thing. These people manipulated fire in a way that she and Cinna could only dream of.
