Kohala Coast, Hawaii | Morning & Afternoon | Wednesday | February 23rd

It was yet another lovely day in Hawaii. The sun was shining, the ocean was clear and there wasn't a flake of snow in sight. Getting sick of it yet? Yeah, we aren't either.

Even without looking up, Warren could almost feel the weight of Raven's look, pressing down on him. He worried at his lip with his teeth, and then nodded a little.

"She's learning, then."

He was a little proud of her, yes. There was still a liberal dollop of unease, settling heavy in his guts, but it was settling in there with a hazy sense of relief. And that pride.

"Everyone got through okay, then?"

"She is," Raven said with a gentle smile. She could feel that spark of Pride in Warren and couldn't stop herself from tasting it a little, though not enough that he'd notice.

"And yes, we all returned safely, and Tara was able to free a friend of Rinoa's from the control he was under," she went on. That reminded her that she needed to check on Rinoa and see how she was doing now as well.

Warren nodded a little, pursing his lips thoughtfully.

She'd learned. At least enough to hold off once. He didn't really know the situation, beyond the bare bones that Raven had just told him, but that sounded like... a start, at least.

She was trying. That felt good to know.

"I'm glad you're all back in one piece, then," he decided.

"I think this vacation was just what we all needed after that experience," Raven said, stretching her legs out in the sand. After a whole lot of unpleasant experiences, actually.

"What have you done so far while we have been here?" she asked curiously.

"So far?" Warren glanced Raven's way, and then he exhaled, a sort of soft laugh that didn't quite let itself turn into laughter at all. "Not much. I'm not really a swimmer, and I can't exactly go to the spa for a massage, so I've mostly just been enjoying the beach."

A pause.

"And failing miserably at learning how to surf."

Some Warrens had it. This Warren didn't.

"I do not know how to swim at all, so I have avoided the water, though it is beautiful to see," Raven confessed. "You are brave for attempting to learn how to surf." Azar knew she would never try something like that.

"You should make certain to visit Mauna Kea at night," she offered up. "The view there is extraordinary and not to be missed."

"Not that brave," Warren replied, smiling. "I didn't dare go in past my head. And after I fell in a few times, my bruised dignity and I decided to just sit on the board while my wings drip-dried."

Because he was a total wuss.

"Mauna Kea? I haven't been up that way yet. Maybe I'll have to, huh?"

"Do your wings help you balance?" Raven wondered.

She glanced in the direction of the mountain. "Oh, yes, you should see it," she said. "The stars are breathtaking, and they have telescopes as well so that you may look at other marvels in the sky."

"Yes and no," Warren answered. "They're great for balance, sure, but not if I stand the same way that everyone else does. It takes a completely different posture to stay upright when you've got hollow bones and an eight-foot reach on either side, and people kind of... notice."

Well, he assumed that they noticed. He was maybe the tiniest bit paranoid about that.

"I guess the lack of city lights around here would do wonders for the view at night, huh?"

That definitely made sense, and Raven nodded, also in answer to his question.

"The lack of lights, and being so high above what light there is here...I have never seen skies so clear on Earth, even in Fandom," Raven said. "It is very romantic."

That was Raven's terribly subtle way of telling him to bring Karla, yes.

Warren huffed a soft laugh at that, planting his palms in the sand and leaning back enough to be able to look at the clouds that were drifting along overhead.

"I always did find the skies to be more impressive at night while I was in them," he offered. "The altitude does help. Nothing left to shine right into your eyes, except for what's up above."

In his mind, there were plans starting to percolate, of course.

"The moon is waning, so it will not be a detriment to the dark once it sets," Raven mused. "I had not thought to go flying at night, but perhaps I will have to do so before we leave."

It wasn't entirely the same when it was her Soul-Self, but it would still be an amazing sight.

Warren nodded a bit, his upward look turning a bit wistful, for a moment.

"It would have to be after dark, to keep from frightening anybody," he noted. "But I think it would be doable, if you kept it to an area that didn't have many people in it, and... maybe stayed high enough off the ground that you could be mistakable for one of the local birds."

Warren was totally pleading 'albatross,' if he was spotted at night.

"The higher the better, I would think," Raven said, following his gaze upward. "Up above any clouds. Nothing between you and the stars."

She was more homesick for Azarath than she'd thought.

"Well, of course," Warren agreed. "And out here, there aren't really many tall buildings or anything to worry about skirting away from, either."

He exhaled, another soft, breathy laugh, and shook his head. "I wouldn't mind seeing a birds-eye view of this island in the daytime, too, though. It must be breathtaking. Or around sunrise, or sunset, when everything is colors."

"You should do so before we return to Fandom," Raven encouraged. "We still have two more days here. What is there to stop you?"

She drew her knees up to her chest and hugged her arms around them. She might have to do that before they left as well.

"About three thousand completely normal human tourists," Warren replied, wryly. "Flying people... kind of stand out, around here. I don't want to raise a panic."

Or an angel-hunt, for that matter. Hawaii would never be the same.

"Then go away from the city," Raven said. "There are portions of the island that are untouched by people. Surely they would be safe. Though if you think it would be too risky, I would not wish to encourage you to jeopardize yourself."

And there went Warren's gaze, looking thoughtfully upwards, again.

"How far out do you suppose I would have to be, for it to be safe?"

Yep. He was percolating, again.

"Towards the mountains, I would think," Raven said, glancing out in that direction. "The resorts are close to the water. Once you move away from the city, the population becomes more sparse."

Just steer clear of the people with the telescopes on Mauna Kea.

Warren nodded, following her gaze, and then breaking into another small grin.

"So, the trick is finding my way to a place with fewer people."

Oh, he could do that. Warren had both the money and the will to do that, after all.

"I am certain there are maps in the gift shop of the hotel that will give you an idea of what direction to go," Raven pointed out helpfully.

"I think it will be safe enough, but please be careful."

"Absolutely," Warren replied. "I think I have something in mind, already."

It would be another night flight, granted, but...

"I'm going to have to give Karla a call, later."

"I hope you enjoy yourselves," Raven said with a pleased smile.

She got to her feet, brushing sand off her dress. "But I should be returning to my room. I have been out in the sun too long and must reapply my sunscreen."

She was taking her sunscreen Very Seriously. She might be forced to wear colorful dresses, but she wasn't going to let her skin turn red.

"I'll see you around, Raven." Warren shot a little grin her way. "I hope the rest of your trip goes well."

But, really, they were in Hawaii. How could it possibly not?
