Victor paused at that and pretended to be interested in a statue bearing a stealth outfit or some kind. "Do you know when you'd be back from that?" It wa sa moment before he spoke again.

"If you went...do you know how long it'd be before you came back?"

"Plans change. I don't know if I'll even be needed. The last news I had heard about it made it sound as though it was going to be a 'fly in, kill everything that moves, and come home for tea' sort of thing."

Walter didn't mention the part about jumping out of a plane behind enemy lines with a vampire and his coffin with the mission to destroy an operation for creating artificial vampires. That probably wouldn't help his boyfriend sleep well.

Probably not. Had Victor known about it, he would've hated Walter for not taking him along. How many opportunities was Victor going to get do do something as daring as that?

But Victor didn't know what Walter had been thinking, so none of that was taking place.

Instead, Victor nodded and tried to just accept it as part of their relationship. One day, Walter might have to leave, just like he might have to.Neither of them had too much of a choice, right?

Right?

"So where are your rings in this thing?" Victor asked, gesturing toward a weapons section. "Or are they custom?"

"My rings are probably not in here. I doubt that the Crown wants to reveal the story that goes with them."

Oh, look! A distraction! Walter followed the distraction to a display of James Bond items.

"Pippi, Pip, and Blair were going shopping on Portobello Road (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_trips/6082.html?thread=635586#t635586) later. I said we'd try to join them for lunch."

Walter was hiding something, but Victor let it go. Maybe it was best if he didn't know.

"That sounds great."

"Excellent. Let's go there next, then." Walter was grateful Victor didn't pursue it. He wouldn't have been willing to lie if directly confronted.
