New Gotham, Tuesday

The Policeman's Ball was tonight. There was time to check out New Gotham and shop for dress clothes first, of course, or do a lot of other things. But that was the cool part of the day.

"HEY!" Karla protested, straightening back up. "No need to be mean!"

She pulled out the sticks that were holding up her hair; Dinah's birthday gifts were going to be used to good effect tonight. She could tell.

She flung the first one at a guy, hitting him in the thigh. The stick sank deep into his flesh. He yelped at her, turning and almost incredulous expression her way. "YOU ARE RUINING MY PARTY," she yelled.

"NO KILLY," Dinah yelled. "Witnesses! Cops! And nice throw," she added, turning to take down another two guys.

A CRASH of glass signaled that Helena finally felt like showing up.

"Mind if I crash in?"

"...always with the one-liners."

Karla decided not to tell Dinah she'd been aiming for his throat. "No killy!" she repeated cheerily. "But--wait! They totally started it! Oh. Right. Due process."

Alex would be so pleased.

"Helena!" Karla would just be standing there, looking starry-eyed for a second. At least until one of the thugs tried to grab for her. "You're so lucky I just promised no killy," she growled as phantom hands circled his throat and began squeezing. "And that I'm a good enough Healer to know when unconsciousness starts!"

Said thug obligingly passed out, and with Helena wreaking havoc in the middle of the room, and various cops fighting back now, the bad guys started to flee, jumping off the fourth floor balcony onto little portable air bags and heading for the hills.

WHAP!

THUD!

POW!

Dinah and Helena ended up back-to-back at one point, whirled around, did the oh, it's you look, then grinned.

And went back to beating up bad guys.

Dinah made her way back over to Karla and said, "How are you doing?"

"This would go easier if I wasn't worried about certain restrictions," Karla pouted sulked said. "But I'm doing pretty well. I've had some reasons to practice recently."

Reasons she hadn't exactly told Dinah about. Right.

"I like it when I get to use them for decorations," she said hastily, using Craft to lift one up and wrap him in the flag bunting on the wall. Her arm shook with the effort of holding him up, but she had to make sure he was secure. "Oh, wait. Should I not be doing this?"

"Youuuu might want to put your arm down so no one can guess it's you," Dinah said sotto voce. "...wait, why were you practicing?"

"Because I thought I might get attacked at a Police Ball?" Karla suggested, dropping her hand. The male fell with her, but she caught him. Sorta.

Okay, the broken leg would almost certainly keep him from further participating in the attack.

"Is this something we should really talk about now? Oh, look! Bad guy!" And Karla was just going to try to sidle away...
