New Gotham, Tuesday

The Policeman's Ball was tonight. There was time to check out New Gotham and shop for dress clothes first, of course, or do a lot of other things. But that was the cool part of the day.

Admire the cops in their uniforms, talk to Commissioner Gordon, dance, get a drink of (unspiked) punch!)

"LISTEN UP! THE BOSS WANTS TO SPEAK!"

You had to wonder if the world's craziest criminals was an automatic assumption when those in question were wearing bowlers and question-mark jackets, and pointing sub-machine guns at a roomful of (very pissed-off now) cops.

"LADies and GENTLEmen... And officers of the law. Hello." A mild-mannered man in a mask, twirling a cane, stepped forward. "This has now become a fundraiser for-- the Riddler!" He stabbed the cane out at one cop, puffing a little green cloud of gas at him.

"If we can't raise funds from your donations, we'll be taking hostages for ransom back to our lair! Please obey the usual security procedures, and cooperate now."

Run, hide, get taken hostage!

If not, you'll be assumed to be rescued by the end of the evening.

Ask for henchmen to fight here! The Riddler will be leaving a clue for everyone to find him tomorrow, if heroic types want to track him to his lair. Otherwise, that's Helena's and Barbara's and Dinah's job tomorrow.

Karla was attempting to motivate herself for class. Technically, she had one today, but why go through all the trouble of getting up and going back to Fandom via portal just for one class? It was Reno's class anyway. He'd understand! Wasn't last week's class all about when to slack off anyway?

Overnight, pleeaaaase. Because it wouldn't be Francine if she didn't get kidnapped in the most inconvenient way possible.

Fairly early for vacation, but not for a Tuesday, Momoko wandered down and knocked on Karla's door. "Hey Karla? Are you up yet? It's Momoko!"

"Come in," Karla called, perking up.

Momoko was in class with her today. Perhaps Momoko would have useful insights for the dire predicament of 'dun wanna get up.'

Like shopping for a new dress? That was a traditional pre-party activity, no? Even if it was cheating on a semi-implied agreement to leave the manor as little as possible because Some People were paranoid about places that had crimefighters.

Pfft. Like anything was going to happen to Francine in a cocktail dress shop?

"Hey, you are totally going to miss breakfast, young lady! And I'm going to try to convince Mr Alfred to make chocolate chip pancakes for today!" Momoko peeked around the door with a slightly cloudy grin. She wanted something cheery for breakfast since she had to go back for class and all.

"Eh? Are you even up?"

"I'm awake," Karla answered, since 'up' generally implied being out of bed and dressed and all. "I'm debating whether I really want to go back to Fandom for a few hours when we're just going to come right back--and then go back to school again tomorrow. Doesn't staying through the whole day here just make so much more sense?"

Come on, Momoko...agree with Karla...be lazy...you know you wanna...

"You too?!" Momoko sighed and leaned hard against the door. "I know! I've been trying to convince myself all night, but imagine trying to tell him we skipped for a dance?"

Priestly ~~had totally been around this whole time, shut up~~ was sifting through his bags, looking for anything that might work for a freaking ball.

Tuxedo t-shirt? Or was that too kitschy? Maybe he should ask Alfred if there was anything around the Manor he could borrow.

Dude, Priestly so needs to end up hostaged overnight. He just does.

"It's Reno," Karla ~~whined~~ reminded. "Remember last week? The thing with the vacation and the bad guy and the Rookie? We're on a vacation, too!"

Just not an entirely sanctioned one. And wouldn't they just love to hear Cloud being referred to as 'the bad guy'?

"Yeah, but he never said what the right answer was..." Momoko did much mental flailing. It was Reno's class! But, but... She really didn't want to go all the way back just for one hour. And what if they couldn't get a portal back in time? And they could totally get any notes from Ino or Elena or someone...

"He'll totally make us do something embarrassing if he ever found out why we skipped, you know."

"Can it possibly be more embarrassing than the debacle with Vimes hitting the radio?" Karla countered. "Because if it isn't, I bet we could handle it."

Liz normally wasn't that big on attending balls and such but she was looking for a dress that she could wear for that night.

I'd love for Liz being taken overnight :)

"Oh, it totally could." Momoko rolled her eyes. "He can be evil if he wants."

But still? She could totally get the notes from Elena... And Reno probably wouldn't even notice, right?

"Alright, alright! I vote for staying!" And she seemed really sad about it, the way she was smiling from ear to ear.

"Yay!" Karla cheered, also quite clearly upset. "Oooh, now the big decision. Do I go back to sleep or get up and have pancakes? Oh! I can do both! Pancakes first and then back to sleep again!"

Yay for problem-solving.

Karla hadn't grown up with a policeman fetish, but even she could appreciate the handsome males and females in their uniforms. "How long is this punch going to remain unspiked?" she asked in an undertone.

Step right up! Henchman looking for you!
