Friday dawned looking picture perfect. The sun rose high into the sky, providing warmth and light across the island. Fluffy clouds dotted the sky, giving it a postcard like look. And all across the resort, things were opening up, coming to life, preparing to entertain. The vacation was nearly over for the denizens of Fandom but there was still time to have some fun. "Not to watch, but the drama can be fun." Emmett mourned the days of the wiki flipped back a few chapters. "He's a lord in disguise and she calls him on his shit because her grandfather was a real pirate and she knows these things. Which lasts a whole chapter or three before she's letting him buckle her swash."

"So she held out for a while," Didi said. "Why's he in disguise? Does his family want him to be all royal and boring?"

"It's not a bad earring," Didi decided, flopping onto the sand. "Having a good trip so far?"

"I miss my boyfriend," Didi admitted. "But the Bahamas aren't a bad trade-off, you know? And I might smuggle a dolphin home."

"I'd ask where, but I recognize a lady has her secrets," Emmett said, flipping the book over in that way that would, yes, break the spine, but come on, romance novel. He reached for his drink. "How come your man didn't come along?"

"Little bit gross, Emmett," Didi said, not sounding overly put out. "Jono? He doesn't like the idea of being around shirtless people for a week, since he can't be."

Well. Not without causing a scene.

"I figure it's just my job to take a lot of photos."

They didn't share any classes, but Emmett had an inkling of who she meant. "The boy with the --" He swiped a hand over his mouth, miming a bandage, or maybe a gag. "Interesting leather?"

"Yeah," Didi confirmed, matter-of-fact. "He .... kind of blew himself up when his powers manifested. 'swhy he can't talk. Also why he's not big on sunbathing."

A pause as she decided to lighten the conversation. "Though that might also be about being British."

"Possibly both," Didi said thoughtfully. "He's missing the tea fetish, though. He probably loses points for that."

"Judging by the number of hot English guys on the island, there's plenty of people to take up the slack," Emmett observed.

"Yeah?" Didi said. "I can only think of Bod and I guess Arthur. I might be slipping at noticing hot English guys."

"For shame. You left out Professor Mitchell. Age discrimination is not a pretty thing." Unlike Professor Mitchell. "Arthur's radio guy, right? I haven't seen him, only heard his voice."

"Yeah, and I don't know Mitchell," Didi said, almost apologetic. "Next term, right? And Arthur's ... kind of swaggery and blond. Male model looking. Pretty much matches the voice. Not really my type."

He might sound more convincing if... he was even trying to.

If she'd had the first actual clue about Arthur's love life ... no, she probably would have said the same thing.

If he'd had the first actual clue about Arthur's love life... he'd be able to cancel his subscription to Beef and Twinkies entirely and save a lot of money he didn't really have by subsisting on mental images of it for at least... a week. Hey, the kid with the ears had some kickin' cheekbones.

As it was, he just answered, "Well, if we should happen to run into each other, it'd be nice to put a face to the voice."
