"Right, but I don't have a birthday in just a few days, do I?"

Walter shook his head and looked down the street. "I think there was a sweets shop, but I wouldn't recommend the Weasleys' sweets. I did buy a couple of things there, but I wouldn't eat anything myself." He shrugged and pointed the way he hadn't thoroughly explored yet. "Your turn to choose something."

After a moment of looking around, Victor lead Walter into a place called Gambol & Japes. Inside were a variety or practical joke items, as well as a small rack filled with what looked like candy.

"Chocolate Frogs? Bernie Botts Every Flavor Beans? I've never heard of this stuff before." He took one of each anyway and continued to look around. 'I wonder if there's anything here we can use back at school..."

"I bought a few things from the competition," Walter said in a low voice. "I assume some of this stuff will work at home, but I don't know how much. The gifts I bought had better work, or I'm going to be very disappointed. The joke stuff isn't as important."

"Heh. I wonder if they have a catalog."

He decided to find out later. For now, he chose some more candy and took it to the register. Fortunately, he had exchanged for the appropriate money on his first day, and had more than enough for his purchase.

When the boys exited the shop, Victor pointed to Walter's bags. "So where did you get that stuff, anyway? Is there an all-purpose shop around ehre or did you have to go from door to door?"

"Door to door. With the stuff here, it was easy to decide what to buy."

He opened his own box of Bertie Bott's beans and popped one in his mouth. He chewed for a moment before making a suprised face. "Tomato? Who makes tomato-flavoured sweets? No, don't answer that. Bertie Bott, apparently."

"Can I try one?" Victor asked as he reached in and took a green one of course. The instant he began chewing, though, he really wished he hadn't.

"Oh..ptew!...gross! Ptew Fucking booger!"

"Yech!" Walter stopped in another shop and bought Victor what seemed to be a wizarding soda. Hopefully he wouldn't turn out ot be allergic the way he was with Wonka's root beer.

"Let's finish up here and get back to the hotel."

"Yeah, sure," Victor replied, gulping down the soda as soon as it was brought to him. It was surprisingly warm and extremely good, and Victor looked at the label with interest.

"Butterbeer?"

But there didn't seem to be any alcohol in it, so he just shrugged, took another sip, and followed Walter back to the hotel.
