"Well, everyone else has been nice. And that guy?" Rory moved a little closer to Xander and lowered her voice. "Kind of looks like he lives here. And either bathes in the various goods, or just does not shower. Ew. Ewww."

"Maybe we should try atthe counter," Xander suggested, peering at some of the jars on the far end of it and wondering if any of the contents might be former students of Ms. Skeeter's.

Rory nodded and sort of tiptoed toward the counter.

"Helloooo?" she called, peering over the counter...and promptly giving a little shriek as a clerk popped up as out of nowhere.

"May I help you?" he asked calmly.

"Ulp," Xander said. Yes, he actually said that. "We're looking for a bezoar stone?"

Rory nodded. "What he said, yes."

The clerk ignored them and selected a jar from the plethora on the shelves behind the counter. "Ah yes, the bezoar. You must be very advanced potion-makers."

He looked back at them, seeming to size them up. "Hogwarts students? You look like you'd be sixth or seventh years, yes?"

"Actually," Xander answered quickly, "We're eighth years. This is for our big final graduation project."

The clerk narrowed his eyes. "And you're Hogwarts students, you say? You sound awfully American."

Rory had a feeling they'd said something wrong, in spite of really not understanding anything the man had asked of them. "Um, yes, we're from a school in the States. Just here on vacation. Er. Holiday. Whatever. Could we just have the bezoar? Please?"

"We really need it, and it's for a good--" Xander winced. "A...possibly useful? To somebody? Some people like him? Cause."

Rory elbowed him. "Lots of people like him. Gah."

The clerk wrapped up the bezoar, still carefully watching them. "What do I care where you're from," he sighed as he took some money from Rory. "You're paying me. Thank you for your patronage."

"...Any time?" Xander said in a less than sincere tone as he glanced around the strange, dank store again and motioned Rory towards the door.

"Ew. I have like, a goat hairball here. This better help Angel."
