"What? What's wrong with giving a vampire blood lollipops?" Zero glanced about. "This place is, yeah, a touch creepy. I can see why Skeeter thought innocent lil' high schoolers should stay away."

"He's going to be very, very confused. I may have to watch him try to eat those." Parker stopped to look in the cobwebby window of a shop that proclaimed Borgin & Burke's - Fine Antiquities. It had a creepy mummified human hand in the window. "Okay. This place looks... fairly awful. Think they'd sell us unicorn horn shavings?"

"Only one way to find out." Zero shoved the door open and stepped into the shop. "Hello? Anyone here?"

Parker stalked in, and looked around.

A collection of hangman's ropes, with what appeared to blood stains on one of them, hung on one wall. A smeared display case had a sparkling opal necklace on a velvet dais, and a rope of creamy pearls next to it. A human skull here, a few black candles there....

"Can I help you young ladies?" An older man with thinning hair came out from the back of the shop, wiping his hands off on a chamois. Beady little eyes sized them up and went cautious. "We don't often get yer sort here."

Zero did her best to look tough. And possibly magical. She doubted her ripped jeans were helping with that last. "Little birdy told us you might have something we needed."

A sower looking man in black robes breezes into the store and rudely interrupts the conversation between Burke and the two young women.

"Do you have my package or are you going to going to inconvenience me even longer?"

"Excuse me. We were here first," Parker said icily. She tapped her fingernails on the display case. "And while I sympathize with inconvenience, ours is a matter of life or death." She smiled insincerely. "So please step back from the proprietor."

The man ignores Parker and drums his fingers on the counter.

"Oi," Zero demanded, "Who made you king of the world? We were here first."

The man would give Zero an icy look but that would involve acknowledging her presence.

He takes out a bag of coin and drops it on the counter.

"My package Mr. Burke."

Zero sighed and turned to Parker. "I thought you said you fixed that spell."

"It's not you, it's Mr. Personality-less here." Parker growled-- and snatched up the bag of coins, holding them away from the guy in the monk robes. "You'll get it back, after we've been helped," she snapped at him, then turned to the shopkeeper.

"Unicorn horn shavings. Do you have them. How much do you want for them. And if we can't get them today, we're gone."

The man pulls out a wand. You've seen one of those before.

Parker reflexively threw the bag of coins straight for his face, the followed up with a mummified hand that was just lying there. "Hey! No turning me into a puffin!"

Zero grabbed at Parker's sleeve and hissed, "Oh, squall, are you bonkers? Stop throwing stuff! He might make us pay for it!"

Then she turned to the man in black. "Look. We don't want trouble. We just want to get what we came for, and then we'll be on our way and you can be on your way and hopefully we'll never see each other again ever. But we were here first." She looked at the clerk. "And I believe that in civilised society, that means we get served first. Unicorn horn shavings. Do you or do you not have them?"

The man grabs the bag out of the air and is struck in the face by the mummified hand. Zero's words don't seem to be helping his mood

"Very well. No puffins." he says to Parker, and raises his wand and turns parker into a miniature giraffe.

"That'll give you an hour to think about being rude to your betters."

Mr. Burke is wheezing with the effort of not laughing, he places a small wooden box on the counter.

"Here is your package sir. Don't mind the kiddies."

The greasy man grabs the box, slams down the bag of coins, stows his wand with a flourish and blows out the door.

Parker made a really cute miniature giraffe. Very long eyelashes. She looked very, very irate though, and was trying to climb the counter, making whining noises.

If she'd had a voice, she would have shrieked FIX ME! at Zero.

She really would have to tell Crichton about this later.

Zero facepalmed and used her other hand to restrain Parker. "She's...really not all that bright." She winced as she said, "I don't suppose you'd have any unicorn horn shavings?"

"We do, miss. But I'd like to see the color of your gold, first." He shook his head, still looking hugely entertained. "That Snape's a nasty one. Yore friend's lucky she ain't got a bad case of poison oak, or worsit. So. Show me the weight of yor coin, and we'll have a nice chat then."

She sighed and plunked her hundred-pounds' worth on the counter. "Half of it got turned into a giraffe with her. If you need more, I can have it in...about fifty-eight minutes."

He counted out the coin, and looked considering. "Nah. This should do't. Ain't got more than an ouce of it, anyhows. Hold on, I'll be back."

Mr. Borgin was in the backroom for several minutes; when he came back, Parker had attempted to climb on one of the armchairs, and was nibbling on the fringe of an endtable cover. "Oi! Get her offa that, quick-smart. Here's your shavings." Her held up a small glass vial, containing spiralling curls of silvery, glowing ivory. "Right then?"

Zero sighed and hauled Parker back. "Don't eat that, you don't know where it's been--Yes, sir. Thank you, sir." She took the vial and wondered whether she was going to get change back, or it was another trip to Gringott's for her.

"Tell your friend she's lucky," he said again, dropping four gold coins and an assortment of silver into Zero's palm. "And be on your way. There's sorts in this part o' town that don't like your types."

"Yes, sir." Zero tucked the vial and her coins into the inner pocket of her coat. "I know some people don't like punkers." She grabbed for Parker. "Come on, Pinkie. I'll buy you an ice cream."
