Zero entered Gringott's and headed straight for the money-changing counter. The trick to this sort of thing, she'd found, was to pretend you knew what you were doing. And if they were heading somewhere shady, they'd probably have to pay in cold hard cash.

"O.Kay. Do you see the taller cousins to the gremlins wearing waistcoats and glaring at us?" Parker said through a sideways smile and gritted teeth.

"Yeah," Zero said without breaking stride. "I see 'em. Don't let 'em see you're scared." She stopped at the counter and smiled brightly and falsely. "Hello, I'd like to exchange this for, um, whatever your unit of currency is." She pushed a hundred-pound note across the counter.

The goblin eyed her warily. "You're not from around here, are you?"

"No, sir, just here on business." He handed her a small, heavy bag and Zero frowned, muttering as she moved away from the counter, "Squall, what do they have against paper?"

Parker muttered, "Not afraid, just not wanting to get bit," then smiled extra-large at the goblin. "Could you change this please?"

"We're a bank. Of course we can change it," the she approached said witheringly. Another hunred pounds into gold.

"I don't know what they have against gold, but I now feel like I have a 'please mug me' sign on." Parker said, twitching her shoulders. "Find me a place to buy a knife, and then we head for that alley. Nocturne?"

"Nocturne sounds right. Nocturne Alley? Sounds...dark." Zero put her bag of gold into one of her jacket's inner pockets and zipped it shut. The brass knuckles in the other inner pocket balanced it out.

"Well, Skeeter did warn us away. Can't say we don't know what we're getting into." Parker grimaced. "But I'm still getting a knife, first."
