3/4 - Travel Time on the Knight Bus

The Knight Bus (http://www.hp-lexicon.org/wizworld/knight_bus.html) is our mode of transportation.

The Knight Bus is a triple-decker, violently purple bus which has The Knight Bus written over its windshield in gold letters. There is also a sign that says "ALL DESTINATIONS (NOTHING UNDERWATER)"

Faire has been supplied by the StuCo and the School, however, for two sickles (around $1.02 US (http://www.answers.com/topic/money-in-harry-potter)) you get hot chocolate with free refills.

In daytime, passengers sit in armchairs. Lighting comes from candles in brackets on the walls. A small wooden staircase leads to the upper floors. The ride is very bumpy as the bus seems to jump erratically from one place to another.

Mac drags her luggage over to the bus, making sure she signs in with the guy holding a clip board. This doesn't seem like the average school trip transportation, but hey, so long as they get there in one piece at the end, she's not fussy.

So, Nadia's not the best at geography, but she is pretty sure that the UK is across an ocean from the United States, and that generally people cross those in planes, not buses.

But, after all, this is Fandom. So she climbs aboard.

Xander drags a suitcase, backpack, and his laptop bag onboard. He doesn't blink at the bus. This may be only because he's afraid the color would leave afterimages on his eyelids.

He does wonder aloud, "Okay, it either flies, it crosses dimensions, or someboy spent a lot of money on this thing just for a trip across the causeway to BWI."

Walter and Victor checked in, both with all their luggage. Walter looked around with great interest. As far as he was concerned, three months ago, this places had been offices used by the military.

The sense of temporal displacement was highly disconcerting.

The clerk typed a few things in his keyboard, then his eyes widened at what he saw onscreen. Then he hit the deck.

The tower was originally called the Garden Tower because it was at the corner of the Queen's House garden, but during the sixteenth century its name was changed to the Bloody Tower because of its supposed association with the young Princes in the Tower, who disappeared in 1483. The proximity of the tower to the Queen's house and the style of accommodation did make it a suitable place for noble prisoners, however. Its most famous resident was Sir Walter Raleigh, for whom a second floor was added in 1605-6, and today's visitor sees the tower furnished as it might have been in the period he lived here with his wife and children (his second son was baptised in the Chapel of St Peter in 1605).
