LAX Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

The Portalocity Terminal was ready for the influx of former Fandomites it was about to receive. There were banners saying 'Welcome Fandom High', tables of refreshments for folks to enjoy while they waited for the shuttle to the hotel...

... and a lot of children in various degrees of confusion about why exactly they were there.

"No, no amnesia," Shawn assured her, even if the question wasn't really directed at him.

"Just not used to seeing you... here." Try not to confuse her too much, so early on.

Lana nodded. "That's right, we're just not... we weren't expecting you just yet."

Lily sighed with the patience of a six-year-old who was used to her odd parents. "'Cause you were doing lots of kissing again?"

"Little," Shawn corrected. "That was only a little." Because compared to how they could be sometimes, it really was.

Lana blushed and elbowed Shawn before turning her attention back to Lily. "So... while Mommy's being silly... how old are you, honey?"

And that would be a big sigh. "I'm six. I'm going to real school this year, not baby kindergarten anymore."

"Six... Wow, that's-- Wow." Look, every time this happened it was going to take a few minutes for it to sink in. "Pretty big."

"You step through a one of those portals too?"

Lana reached over and took his hand. God. She wondered if Maggie was going to show up.

She smiled a little wistfully at Lily. "Such a big girl."

"I know," Lily said with a grin. She looked innocently at Shawn. "I know I wasn't supposed to, but it was just there so fast and before I meant to do anything I was in it."

Shawn gave a little laugh. "Yeah, I've seen that look. Curiosity, right?" Big shiny light, got to go see. He would have.

Lana laughed. "You get that from your dad!"

Lily rolled her eyes. "You always say that, Mommy."

She grinned up at Shawn and reached up for his hand. "It's maybe a little true, though. Which means maybe you'll go on the scary rides with me while Mommy watches?"

"And by scary, you mean tea cups and roundabouts, right?" Because look, she was tiny, there was no way she'd make height restrictions for anything big.

Lana laughed. "She's got me pegged," she admitted.

But she was big now. Hadn't they just said so?

This would be her pouty look.

"We'll find the scariest rides we can that you fit on," Shawn compromised. "How about that?"

And Mommy could pretend to be too frightened to go on them if that made her feel better.

Lily pouted a bit more, just on principle, but being a generally sweet kid she was quickly smiling and nodding.

"You'll find me good ones, I know, Daddy!"

"I'll find you something," he promised, reaching down to rub her shoulder.

"And it will be an awesome one." Not just good. Awesome.

Lana smiled up at him. "You're lucky, Lily. You have just about the best daddy in the world."

"I know," Lily said smugly. "That's what I tell all my friends."

Shawn had to laugh at that. "Well, I know for sure I wouldn't be able to do it without help," he said, and shot a look at Lana.

"Oh, I don't know," Lana said with a sly smile. "You take awfully good care of me all by yourself."

"Mommy's wonderful too," Lily explained patiently, "but she's a mommy so she can't be the bestest daddy."

Parents were so silly sometimes.

"Riiight. Of course," he laughed. "Got it." Because of course he was supposed to think of that.
