It was around dawn when the scent of food began wafting up from the kitchens. Fresh baked bread, coffee, and the lilting tones of Fremen chattering in a mixture of Galach and Chakobsa as they went about their lives.

If they were a bit more outgoing and less-wary of the visitors than they had been the day before, well, going out into the desert to meet with Shai-Hulud had shown a certain daring and respect, and those were two traits that the Fremen held very dear.

The portal would arrive to pick them all up around three, but until then, the visitors from Fandom had the run of Tabr.

Although it still didn't make you safe from the Aunties.

"Does your roommate know about that? That you can jump?"

"Nope," he shook his head. "I tend to walk most everywhere. Unless it's raining." Or he was late. "And then I use the stairwell as a jumpsite or turn a corner first."

"Would you mind if he found out?" she asked curiously, wondering what his jerk roommate's reaction might be if he saw it.

"Depends on if he flipped out," he shrugged. "I'm getting the idea that people aren't so secretive about their powers here."

"It's hard to go from living in complete secret on pain of death to a place where no one is really surprised by the idea of a teleport," he admitted. "I'm still a bit wary." Let's be honest, more than a bit.

"And you'll notice I've never mentioned it out loud in public. Or told anyone."

"I know," he smiled. "And I appreciate it. It was good to practice with Dinah the other day, though. If I make that a habit, people are likely to figure it out."

"You hmmed at me," he prodded, tilting his head at her the better to show his questioning eyes.

"Yeeees," he answered, dragging out the word. "Are we playing some game now?"

Her shoulders shuddered in a short laugh.

"I didn't mean to. Just didn't know what to say. That's all the 'hmm' was, all right?"

She paused then.

"Maybe after I was thinking it might be fun to go down and surprise you some time. But that was all."

"Aha! I knew there was something," he said, victorious. "And surprises can be good. I promise to forget I heard anything about it."

"I warn you, I'm very forgetful," Griff said. And he thought she might remember his need to remind himself of things.

"Which just means I won't have to wait that long. Or there's always the chance that I could do this" and she leaned up to press a kiss to his cheek.
