Arrakis - Sietch Tabr - Wednesday Morning & Afternoon

It was around dawn when the scent of food began wafting up from the kitchens. Fresh baked bread, coffee, and the lilting tones of Fremen chattering in a mixture of Galach and Chakobsa as they went about their lives.

If they were a bit more outgoing and less-wary of the visitors than they had been the day before, well, going out into the desert to meet with Shai-Hulud had shown a certain daring and respect, and those were two traits that the Fremen held very dear.

The portal would arrive to pick them all up around three, but until then, the visitors from Fandom had the run of Tabr.

Although it still didn't make you safe from the Aunties.

"Well, depending on who's doing the hitting it's not always so bad." There was a twinkle in Max's eye, as if at some fond memories.

"HA!" Minsc barked out a laugh. "That I can attest to."

But when he considered the rather formidable list of women smacking him and the experience being not so bad, he added, "Then again, maybe it's more how hard they're hitting that should be the issue."

"And how often," Max suggested. He absently rubbed at his chin as if in memory.

"And with what," Minsc added.

Which seemed to inspire one of the Aunties to smack him in the shin with something wooden which stuck a little.

"Oi."

Max winced in sympathy. Then he winced again when one of them decided he was just as much a part of the conversation and whapped him in the back of the head with something heavy.

"And with what," Max agreed as he rubbed the back of his head.

Minsc dutifully returned to work for a moment before he thoughtfully mused, "Rolled up spell scrolls weren't bad. They didn't hurt much."

"Those are written on paper, right?" Max shook his head ruefully. "I don't think anyone ever hit me with anything with that much give."

"Sometimes it was all Dynaheir had on hand," Minsc said with a shrug, a little carefully, because it wasn't exactly a topic he wanted to go into with too much depth. To move away from it, he eventually added, "Much better that Jaheira. She tended to stab. Especially if you said anything bad about trees."

"Sounds like you've known some pretty violent women," Max chuckled fondly. It was the sort of sounds that suggested that he'd known some violent women himself, and that he was rather fond of them.

Because it would be ridiculous to suggest that the poor men being smacked had done anything to deserve it.

Minsc thought about it, and, yup. He certainly had. It was pretty good to think about, really.

"And what doesn't kill you," he said, "only makes you stronger!"

"That's what they say when they smack you too, huh?"

"...No, if they say anything it's usually just shut up, Minsc!"

"Sounds familiar." Max shook his head. He'd noted the names, and the odd hesitancy Minsc had shown for a moment, but that wasn't something he had any intention of following up on.

Well, not sober, anyway.
