Arrakis - Sietch Tabr - Tuesday Morning

When the students exited the portal, they'd find themselves on a large ledge high above the desert floor; sun blazing overhead and sand stretching out for as far as the eye can see.

"Move along," Ghanima sang as she started herding them towards what appeared to be a small cave in mountain. Once inside the entryway, the students would find themselves confronted with the giant moisture seal doors that led into the sietch. "If you didn't put on sunscreen before we left, get inside. Once you can get settled into your rooms, you can come back out or explore the sietch, but I don't want anyone getting sunburned before our ride."

"K-Mart, Tahiri, and Leto are my lieutenants for as long as we are here. If they tell you not to do something, you listen. And please do not be dismayed if the locals aren't very chatty," she said. "Fremen are notoriously wary of outsiders." Even ones brought by Ghani, daughter of Chani, daughter of Liet. "Oh, and Leto? If I catch you causing paradox, you'll get detention for the rest of your life."

"Which reminds me." Ghanima leveled a finger at her brother. "His name is 'Gavin Darklighter' for the rest of this trip, no matter what anyone asks you. I would like to keep the world from ending, thank you."

Ghanima had a rather odd sense of humor sometimes.

"Now shoo, you've got about five hours or so before we meet back here."

Personal Rooms at Sietch Tabr

Adults have their own yali, and students were RNGed into rooms.

K-Mart got her stuff -- what little she'd brought for the short trip -- settled into her room and then set about getting ready to go outside.

Sunscreen was a bit of a novelty to her, though.

Room 4

Perhaps five bottles of sunscreen were too much? Francine considered this carefully as she lined them up on her bed.

But. Merlin. (Also, Morgana and Arthur, but shh, she had to to be sneakier about mom-nagging people she wasn't dating.)

Room 5

This could be... interesting. What with sharing a room with the boy she was dating and the boy her roommate was dating.

Claire unpacked her bag and started slathering on the sunscreen. She had a feeling that Arrakis would be worse than Texas.

Room 8

Fiona made her way in and put down her bags, eager to spend some time out in the desert. She made sure not to just toss them, placing them beside the bed nearest to the door.

Room 9

Zack had packed relatively lightly, tossing a toothbrush and combs and change of clothing into a bag and calling himself set... Which was more than he normally packed, yes. Either way, getting settled into his room was just a matter of swinging by and throwing his stuff onto the bed.

There! All set for adventure! And stuff!

Room 2

Tahiri was used to packing light, of course, and didn't have much more with her than a spare set of robes, her comlink, her datapad, the sunglasses and cap she was sporting (never wearing Tusken headgear again, thanks), and the hated boots, which had come off the second they'd gotten into the sietch.

She picked out a bed for herself and folded up her spare robes at the foot of it, setting the datapad atop those.

Room 1

Jack neatly put the few clothes he'd brought for the trip away, then experimentally smeared on some of the sunblock.

He didn't much like the scent of it.

Irulan's Yali

Irulan entered the yali she usually occupied whenever she and the twins ventured to Sietch Tabr, which happened a lot.

Room 6

Tony was putting on sunscreen and wondering if there'd be any orgies while they were there.

Room 7

Harper had already put on sunscreen earlier, but after getting a look at all that sand, she decided to slather on more. You couldn't be too careful on alien planets, after all.

Minsc & Boo's Yali.

As Minsc settled into his room, he was, of course, talking to his hamster.

"I certainly hope," he muttered to Boo, "this adventure goes better than the end of that last one, Boo, although I don't think it will be as exciting. Give and take, right, Boo! Let us get settled quickly! This air reminds me of Rashemi air! I feel at home already!"

And, of course, he'd left the door open, for all the world to hear his conversation with his hamster.

Explore the City

Trail one of the bemused Fremen as you make your way through the city. It's a stone labyrinth carved into the mountains and bedrock of the planet, moving up and down and filled with twists and turns to make it defensible against any invading forces.

Do try not to get lost/stabbed/locked in the Death Still.

K-Mart was all over the chance to explore and get lost. Except not seriously getting lost because hi, still had other things to do. Plus she had to be responsible. But the kind of lost where you have to stand still and think for a minute before remembering the way out? She could do that.

Which why she was wandering around cheerfully and taking note of landmarks, such as they were.

It was more than a bit like the catacombs beneath Camelot. Really now, it was just sad how much time Merlin spent down there before the whole... bit with the dragon.

If his damn near blindingly pale skin didn't mark him as a stranger, the fascinated look of glee might have.

Fiona decided she might see what the city was like before heading out. The caves were fantastic, though, and something about this place felt oddly homey.

Wandering around the familiar corridors, Leto found one of his favourite spots, overlooking a large open cavern where people hurried across, busy as always. He took a seat, watching quietly. Should any of the other students have questions he would certainly answer them.

Interested in seeing as much of things on another planet as possible, Griff followed the winding labyrinth and had the distinct feeling he was going to end up lost at some point.

Shopping!

There's a small bazaar in a large cavern, with baked goods, pottery, textiles, and other handcrafts. The merchants will take your money, just because it looks neat and they know they can pester Ghani to change it out for them.

No, Tahiri was not actually going to bring sand or a sandworm back for Ben, but she was going to bring him something. Just . . . what, exactly? She could be here a while, deciding.

Underground Reservoir

See the underground basin where they Fremen keep water in-trust for the Dune terraform project. You can't go swimming in it, but you can wander the vegetable gardens or the fruit trees, carefully tended along the shores. There's people picking the ripe produce if you want to chip in and help out, they won't mind.

Ender's feet had carried him down to the reservoir instead. He was interested in their efforts at terraforming for reasons that were entirely his own. He made a slow stroll of it, examining the gardens. He wound up watching a few people here and there; he might have even exchanged a word or two, but chatty, it wasn't.

The Kitchens

Everyone works at cooking in sietch, even a Princess Royal. If you can chop vegetables or make bread, congratulations, you've been drafted by one of the gossipy old aunties that runs the kitchens. They probably don't speak English Galach very well, but they can make themselves understood.

Try and run, and they'll beat you up.

Brennan was quickly drafted to chop vegetables, and she rolled up her sleeves and got to it, trying to interview the aunties about Fremen culture as she went. She was fascinated by it all.

Thoppter Tour

There are pilots willing to fly groups of two or three students out over the sietch in thoppters, and circle out into the desert. Get a good look at the desert planet from above!

If you've passed Master Skywalker's flight class, the Fedaykin will even let you drive, but he'll stay onboard to make sure you don't get lost or stray into Arrakeen airspace.

Jack had passed Master Skywalker's class, so he was excited to have the chance to go up and have a go at the controls. The planet unspooling beneath him was unlike anything he'd ever seen, and, eventually, he gave the controls back so he could concentrate on it.

Knowing Sebastien would never get to see sand sparkle in the sun like that saddened him.

Rock Climbing!

Once you've got your sunscreen on and have been fitted with a stilsuit, you can go outside and play. Try and climb the exterior of Tabr!

Claire decided that her first adventure on another planet was going to be rock climbing. She got fitted with the stilsuit and was grateful for her good, sturdy sneakers as she started to climb.

Because I forgot to mention it earlier...

The students came in via the back door of one of the lookout points, basically, to prevent the denizens of Tabr from seeing BIG GLOWING PORTAL OMG.

The front door of Tabr, as it were, looks like this or this as you come in over the mountains, as it is accessible only by air or via a narrow passageway through the cliffs.
