Girls With Guns trip [Tuesday afternoon] - Laser Tag!

"Okay," Triela called loudly. "You've got your team assignments, and if you don't you need to talk to me. Every hit you get against someone on the other team is a point. If you get hit then you're safe for fifteen seconds and then your vest turns back on and you're back in. You can't be shot again while you find some cover. The entire mall is the playing area. Your guns won't work outside, so there's no point in cheating. The game lasts ninety minutes. Your vests are programmed to automatically shut down and beep when the time's up. So when that happens you just come back here. Here are your team assignments."

"You need a hand with any of that?" Triela asked as she tightened down the straps on her own vest.

"No, I've got it," Tahiri assured her, scowling just a bit. "But thanks."

"You sure?" Triela sounded a bit concerned. Tahiri did not look like she was having fun.

"Just . . . size issues," Tahiri said, indicating the discarded vests piled up beside her. "I'll feel better once I can actually go out and hit the course."

"You're about 'Etta's size," Triela pursed her lips in thought. "There are advantages to being small, you know..."

"Oh, I know." Tahiri did crack a grin now. "Most of the time I don't mind."

"That's the spirit." Triela grinned back. "Now get out there and get shot a lot by people on my team so we can win."

"Oh, no you don't," Tahiri exclaimed, laughing, but competitive. Not that she wasn't used to getting shot at, but . . .

"Do I look like the type of person to just roll over and lose?"

A flash of her old fierceness lit up Tahiri's eyes for a moment. "Guess we'll find out about that, won't we?"
