The Crown Princess - Tuesday [Rooms and Lido Deck]

The ship was at sea all day today, but that wasn't going to stop the fun. The sun was still shining brightly in the sky, dousing sunbathers in its heavy rays, and the water looked positively azure along the sides of the boat.

The Lido deck remained open for summer joy, with little umbrellas in every drink.

And then he cheated.

By looking at where she was floating, walking around to the closest side, and starting to splash there.

She watched him but couldn't paddle away fast enough, and laughing, she tipped her float and fell in the pool with a shriek.

He blinked, then laughed.

Then it was just a matter of waiting until she came back up.

Bobbing up out of the water, she sputtered, "I can't swim!" She was giggling though, trying to reach for her float.

"Kick with your legs towards the side," he said, though guilt was starting to seep into his brain.

"Or for the float."

What did he say? She kept getting mouthfuls of water, and spitting and swallowing, this wasn't good. She closed her mouth and flailed for her float, kicking her legs. When she reached it, she hung on and took great gulps of air.

Oh Sweet Lurline, you have to be--

Fuck.

And into the water he slipped, dunking under for a moment before kicking up and towards Penelope. Once he got to her, he grabbed the float and started pulling the both of them towards one of the ladders.

There totally wasn't fear making him go faster. No, not at all.

"I'm fine," she tried to tell him. "Just caught me by surprise. Liir, I'm fine."

He was clinging to the ladder and halfway up, sitting on one of the rungs.

"All right, fair enough. You're fine. And now you're fine and breathing air and not in the middle of a pool. I think this is entirely fair."

She blinked at him, her hair in wet clingy strands down her face. "I'm sorry you had to get in. I would have been okay."

He shook his head.

"I can get out, which is the important thing," he told her, quite honest in that respect.

"And like I said, I can swim. I'm just... the still water is a bit creepy. That's all."

"Thank you for helping me, at least," she said, tilting her head and reaching to hold onto the ladder.

"Why is it, can I ask?"

"Trust me, please, when I say you really don't want to know," he said and he put a smile on it to make it seem like it might be a joke of some sort.

"And you're welcome. We could, um, go over treading water if you like. So you know what to do next time?"

"Hurley tried to teach me," she said, not pressing him on the other. "He said to paddle like a dog, except I've never seen a dog in the water."

"There's that," and he had seen one, Killjoy, frequently, "but the easiest way is just to put your arms out to float on the water and swish your feet around lightly, just enough to keep yourself afloat."

Penelope nodded but she still held onto the ladder. "Okay."

He made his way up the rest of the ladder and offered her a hand.

"If you wanted up," he said.

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
She took his hand and made her way up too. "I'll try the water again, later. My tummy feels a little... ill."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Probably the water. It never feels good to take in water when you were expecting air."

That was experience talking. More than one.

"Sit for a bit and it should settle out."

He offered her an arm to help her to a chair.

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2009-02-24 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
She didn't need help but she accepted his arm anyway, because he was being so nice. "Did I spoil your pool time?"

He shook his head.

"Did I ruin yours?"

"No," she smiled, sitting down. "Of course you didn't."

"Good," he said, making sure she settled all right.

"Did you have other plans for today?"
