The Crown Princess - Monday [Ship/Princess Cays, Bahamas]

Early in the morning, the cruise director came over the loudspeaker announcing the port of the day and some on-boat activities of interest. Those paying attention would learn that from 9am until 5pm, the Crown Princess would be docked in the lovely Princess Cays, Bahamas where guests were welcome to participate in glass-bottom boat, snorkeling, or beach excursions for a portion of the day. Adults were encouraged toward the Sanctuary on the Sun Deck for a more private way to relax away from the teens.

[OOC: The Princess Bridge Cam is fantastic. Cabins Post | Star Deck | Sun Deck | Promenade Deck | Cays Cruise | Snorkeling | Beach]

"It is a little distracting, but the waves made getting to sleep last night really easy," Dinah said, reaching into her bag for her bottle of water. "Who're you rooming with?"

"Momoko," he said. "Who is... loud. And you?" And no, he hadn't really felt the waves made sleeping easy, quite the opposite.

Dinah smothered a giggle. "Yeah, I've met Momoko. She's in Girls with Guns club with me. Likable, though." Which might or might not work on Leto; hard to tell. "I'm in with Tony. Chad and Teddy wanted a room together."

"Oh, that's nice." Leto didn't even bother to make his voice sound neutral.

"This is not the first time you have been to a beach?"

Dinah sent him a sharp look for that, raising an eyebrow. "Yes, it is. On both counts... New Gotham doesn't have a real swimming beach most of the year, just a boardwalk. Too cold. Too polluted."

He ignored that look. "But you seem to enjoy being in the water."

"Pool lessons," Dinah said promptly. If he wasn't going to follow up on the mention of Tony, neither was she. "There weren't any rivers or lakes nearby in the middle of Missouri, but summer meant hitting the pool. It was about the only worthwhile entertainment the place had." She rested her chin on her knees. "Branson's on the White River. I always liked that. Only got to visit a couple times, though."

"I can't swim," he said. "No Fremen can. There would never be enough water for a pool." He had to laugh at the idea.

"Seriously? Not even oases..." No, not with what he'd said about conserving water from people's bodies. "Sheeeesh. Even in the Sahara, I think there's *some* water." Dinah frowned. "Maybe not Death Valley, though. That's west of Fandom, in California." Wow. A whole planet of ... Death Valley. "Do you want to?" And wouldn't his other memories be able to show him how?

His Other Memories would, but that didn't mean he would want to learn.

"No." He smiled at Dinah and reached out to pull her hair from her face. "I like feeling sand under my feet."

Dinah smiled, leaning into his fingers, finally not blushing with it. Just content. "I get that. Maybe I'll build a sand castle, later. Want to help? Dig out a fortress with shells, to be completely totalled by the tide?"

While the blushing had been sweet and fun, Leto felt happy that he no longer seemed to make her nervous. "I will help," he promised.

"Cooool." Dinah sighed, quiet for a minute. "I get to stay. Well. Obvious. I'm here, and all. But Barbara and Helena know everything now. Even that my roomie's a boy." She dimpled, amused, remembering Barbara's reaction to that.

"Same goes here," Dinah said decidedly, and squeezed his fingers. "It's easiere when I don't have to lie to someone. At least, people I care about. People I don't care about, I don't have to talk to."

He leaned in to hug her lightly. "Lying can create more problem than it solves. What did they say?"

Dinah leaned against him, delighted and yeah, a little pink again, but not too bad. "They said they'd trust me that I was getting an education out of Fandom that I couldn't get in New Gotham, that it wasn't more dangerous than I could handle, and that I wouldn't get in too much trouble." She pulled back and grinned. "Plus I could tell people more about home, if I really wanted to."

"That's a good thing." He leaned back on the sand. "You have the choice, then."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yup." Dinah grinned at him, turning over her now-semi-secret identity, and decided it belonged to another day. "Plus I don't have to give Geoffrey a nervous breakdown by quitting the play. That would be a tragedy."
future_sandworm: (smile!)

[personal profile] future_sandworm 2009-02-23 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Laughing, Leto replied: "Because that would be the worst thing to happen. How do you find your part in the play?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"I love it, but it is hard. You saw me on Tuesday." Dinah flopped back on the sand dramatically. "I brought my script to practice memorizing more of those speeches. But it's fun to play the king, even though I don't get half of the motivations yet." She turned her head to look at him. "How do you like being a common soldier?"

Re: Beach Clamshell [2/23]

[personal profile] future_sandworm 2009-02-23 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
He grinned. "Oh, it's quite enjoyable, and not nearly as many lines to memorize as you have." He added: "What motivations don't you understand?"

Re: Beach Clamshell [2/23]

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-23 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah thought about the play, and finally said, "How, when it looks like they are going to lose, Harry can keep going with the fight. I mean. If it were just him, I'd get it. But it's not, it's him and all the guys he brought with him. Just because they win in the end, it doesn't... I don't know. Doesn't seem to justify it."

Leto looked at her. "What would you have done?"

"Been a lot more sure before I took other people into a fight." Dinah shook her head. "About the enemy numbers, and the justification for the battle-- Harry worries about that too." She frowned. "Or just gone myself. A duel, or something."

Yeeeeah, Helena has rubbed off on her.
