The Crown Princess - Monday [Ship/Princess Cays, Bahamas]

Early in the morning, the cruise director came over the loudspeaker announcing the port of the day and some on-boat activities of interest. Those paying attention would learn that from 9am until 5pm, the Crown Princess would be docked in the lovely Princess Cays, Bahamas where guests were welcome to participate in glass-bottom boat, snorkeling, or beach excursions for a portion of the day. Adults were encouraged toward the Sanctuary on the Sun Deck for a more private way to relax away from the teens.

[OOC: The Princess Bridge Cam is fantastic. Cabins Post | Star Deck | Sun Deck | Promenade Deck | Cays Cruise | Snorkeling | Beach]

"Uh." Ned peered down at the bigger fish and then answered, "It depends on if there's such as thing as vegetarian fish or not. They could eat the seaweed."

"Like an underwater salad bar?" Claire suggested. "Cool. It's probably easier to get enough seaweed than to catch the little fish."

"It seems that the seaweed is a lot more prevalent than small fish," he observed. "And maybe the small fish are their friends?"

"That would be a really nice book for kids," Claire observed. "Like, the big fish and the little fish hang out underwater and have adventures."

"As long as they don't get stalked by sharks or anything," he said. "Unless the adventure involves fleeing from a shark."

"They could be like the sharks in that Pixar movie, just big dumb surfer dudes," Claire suggested. "So, kinda threatening but not scary or anything."

"Pixar movies?" he asked. "I...think I missed those. I've only seen the one shark movie with the giant teeth and he ate the boat and...the music."

"You know, that new computer animation thing," Claire said. Well, to her it was new. "And I saw that too. Plus, we had a guy at the funeral home once who got his leg bit off by a shark."

Way to be helpful, Claire.

Ned...winced, yeah. And tucked a leg up under him. "He died from that?"

Claire's legs were tighter under her, too, as she nodded. "Everyone says shark attacks are just crazy rare."

She was trying to reassure herself as much as Ned; now she was looking at the anemones and turtles below as if she expected them to sprout fins.

"I haven't seen a shark yet but they can't bite through glass, can they?" he asked. "Rare or not, that still means they happen. And my luck's bad enough to attract that sort of thing."

Claire gave him a look. "They wouldn't let us come out in these if we were just going to be shark bait," she said, trying to sound more confident than she felt.

"Hopefully," he felt inclined to add. "I wonder if there are shark tamers around here."

Way to be optimistic, Ned.

"Like lion tamers?" Claire asked doubtfully. "That would be kinda cool, if the shark just jumped through hoops...."

And didn't eat anybody.

"Well, I mean, did you ever expect anyone to tame a lion?" Ned asked. "Why not a shark?"

Claire had to think about that a moment. "... actually that's a really good question," she conceded. "And everybody would just be crazy impressed to see a shark do tricks."

"Exactly!" Ned said, nodding. "And they can make dolphins do stuff, right? I mean, I've seen that on television. Jumping through hoops and dancing on top of the water. Sharks are just dolphins with sharp teeth."

No, they weren't.

[Heading home!]

Claire didn't think that was exactly how it worked, but ... "That's exactly what you should do after graduating," she informed him. "World-famous shark trainer."

"...I don't know if I could stand be around sharks just to watch them let alone tame them," he said. "The teeth and all."
