The Crown Princess - Monday [Ship/Princess Cays, Bahamas]

Early in the morning, the cruise director came over the loudspeaker announcing the port of the day and some on-boat activities of interest. Those paying attention would learn that from 9am until 5pm, the Crown Princess would be docked in the lovely Princess Cays, Bahamas where guests were welcome to participate in glass-bottom boat, snorkeling, or beach excursions for a portion of the day. Adults were encouraged toward the Sanctuary on the Sun Deck for a more private way to relax away from the teens.

Ben drifted past and gave him a small wave.

Ender caught the movement from the corner of his eyes, and tilted back a little bit so he could both see Ben and return it, his hand splashing against the water.

Ben rotated his fingers in the water and sent out a quick little probe with the Force towards the fish. He didn't have Jacen's gift with animals, but the invitation was enough for several brightly colored ones to turn towards Ender.

Ender's eyebrows raised, but it was hard to tell behind the goggles. A little, childish part of him touched on wonder again. He let it go, twisting sideways just a bit to let the fish pass by him.

He signed a question mark. He figured Ben would get it.

Ben flashed him a grin, then made a ridiculous face and wiggled his fingers like a magician.

Ender made good use of the universally recognizable sign for crazy. He kicked his feet, scaring some fish back towards Ben.

Another little invitation from Ben and the fish came up and swirled around his hands before zipping back towards Ender.

It was the small things that brought Ben pleasure.

Ender signed something that was a lot like is that the best you can do, Skywalker?. He knew it would've probably been more succesful if his eyes hadn't been trained on what Ben was doing, though.

Ben wasn't going to be baited (a thought that made him grin to himself at the terrible punning). He gave an elaborate shrug of his shoulders and began paddling towards the shore.

With a dozen little fish following along behind.

Ender didn't laugh.

He did grin for about a second at Ben's retreating back before it slowed back down.

Ben could feel Ender's amusement and looked around for the cause of it.

Whoops. He'd made friends. He made a little shooing gesture with his hands.

The fish ignored it.

Now he really had to make an effort not to laugh. Instead, Ender pushed away, kicking his feet, making his way over to Ben with solid movements.

He waved his hands at the fish.

The fish scattered and Ben gave Ender a sheepish smile.

Ender grinned back. Then he gestured at a fish, and then at his lips. Ben Skywalker: fish whisperer.

Laughing with your face underwater was not a great idea. Ben popped his face to the surface, sputtering.

Ender followed him a few moments afterward, sputtering a whole lot less. He reached to pull out the breathing part of the snorkel. "Still alive, Skywalker?"

"Barely," Ben said, laughing. "I didn't expect to make such permanent friends."

"It must be the charm," Ender said, waggling his eyebrows. "I'd almost think you were enjoying yourself."

"It's a vacation," Ben said. "I've been told that's the purpose of them."

"Better check your sources."

Ben's eyebrows quirked up. "Oh?"

"It could be a sneak attack," Ender pointed out, dryly, "Getting us all isolated."

It was supposed to be a joke, yes.

"Yeah, all of those old people on the boat with us seem just poised for an ambush," Ben teased.

"I've seen old people do a lot of damage," Ender said, swimming a little closer, "Watch out."

"My dad's second master was 900 years old," Ben told him. "I've heard all about how they can thump you with sticks. I'm still not that worried."
