Endor [Tuesday, December 30]

Luke, sadly for those who were not, was totally a morning person. As soon as the sun rose above the horizon, he was up, trying to get everyone ready for another day of hut building and bridge hanging.

There was breakfast and really awful strong coffee, and then the hike back to where they'd been working all of yesterday.

Luke would understand if people took breaks to explore today. Three solid days of manual labor is no vacation.

"I'm not sure they really care about color scheme," Pepper commented, watching with some amusement. "Though I wish I'd thought of that."

"Why wouldn't they care about color scheme?" asked Lacey, who hadn't yet noticed the twigs in her hair. "They're going to live here, so it should be something, you know, nice and soothing. Something to make it feel like home. And maybe just a little touch of Fandom to remind them of us!"

"Are we even sure they can see color?" Pepper asked curiously. "That aside...does it really look like they have discerning interior decorating tastes?"

She paused.

"Also, you have sticks in your hair," she added, gesturing.

Lacey reached up with one hand to try and brush the twigs away, which only made matters worse.

"Well, okay," she conceded reluctantly. "So maybe they don't, but why shouldn't they have some nice decorations anyway? It'd be an improvement on boring old plain huts, even if they are colorblind."

Behind her, one of the Ewoks had frozen in its tracks and was now glaring at her. Not that she saw.

Pepper couldn't really argue with that logic. Except to say, "Maybe that's what they like. I mean, they wear those weird little hoods, too, but I'm not giving them my Prada."

Though now she was thinking about it.

Even if Lacey could speak Ewok she'd probably have failed to notice that the one offended Ewok had called over several others who were all glaring at her now.

"And there's nothing wrong with that," Lacey said in a tone she thought was magnanimous. "I just think it'd be nice to try and encourage them to branch out a little bit, tastewise."

Hee. Branch out. She thought she was funny.

"I mean," she continued, "the rustic look has its . . . certain charms, but a little more sophistication couldn't hurt either, right?"

"True," Pepper said carefully, watching the wee glaring Ewoks. "I mean, there's nothing wrong with giving them some...new options to consider."

"But they're being so closed-minded about it," Lacey said with a bit of a pout. "It's almost like being back in Dog River again."

Flash-cut: a pair of adjoined tree huts with the Corner Gas and Ruby signs done up in branches nailed to planks. An elderly Ewok with grey fur comes stomping out of the Ruby-hut gesturing wildly with what looks like a spear with its head broken off and ranting.

[SUBTITLE: Can you believe the nerve of her? Changing the way the vines are draped over the windows in there! What was wrong with the way they were draped before? Nothing!]

Another Ewok, a younger but very dirty-looking one with a backwards baseball cap and a grubby Figrin D'An and the Modal Nodes logo on its shirt, shuffles up beside him.

[SUBTITLE: It's like she's trying to turn it into a gay bar or something!]

"I swear," Lacey continued with a sigh, "I don't get what it is with small towns and people being so resistant to trying something new."

The glaring Ewoks let out a collective and unmistakably offended noise.

Pepper looked a little more warily at the Ewoks, and replied, "I wouldn't know. I don't do much with small towns. But they definitely seem mad about something."

". . . who's mad?" asked Lacey. It was amazing how often this happened to her, and how she managed to fail to expect it every single time. Of course, it usually didn't involve a wee fuzzy Ewok shaking a staff at her, but still -- it was a constant.

Pepper inclined her head towards the Ewoks. "Teddy Ruxpin and his friends over there don't seem all that thrilled."
