Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, Québec City, Québec [Wednesday Morning/Afternoon]

The weather was a little cooler and cloudier today, but that just meant it was really time to break out those fashionable hats and scarves!

Okay, maybe only whatever scarves you all brought are fashionable, but some of you are annoying and can make any item of clothing work, so just make sure you're bundled safely. We're only halfway through the week and there's still so much to do!

With breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence River and the architecture of Old Québec, each of the 610 rooms and suites of Fairmont Le Château Frontenac offers a touch of European elegance. A luxurious stay at this resort will allow you to explore the wonderful historical sites of the old walled city, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The chaperones have been randomly assigned suites, and the students have been given courtyard view rooms with two doubles or a king-sized bed ~~depending on what's funnier~~. Relax, take a bath, order room service--it's vacation!

Whether you're at Le Sam Bistro, Champlain, Place Dufferin, or Bar 1608, you're going to enjoy a meal that has been making the Château famous for more than 125 years. (And the prices will make you grateful this was an all-expenses paid trip.)

Breakfast is set up in Place Dufferin. Smoked salmon eggs benedict and maple syrup crepes with spiced apples! You know you want it.

There are 35 teas to choose from at afternoon tea, plus a gourmet tower with open-faced sandwiches, fresh scones served with Devonshire cream and homemade jams, and then another tower pastries and sweets. You might not need dinner!

Today's school-sponsored excursion is out of town! On a boat! Full of whales! We travel along the Saint Lawrence River to the town of Baie-Sainte-Catherine, where we'll board a 3-level observation vessel to see whales, seals, and belugas. We'll be back by dinner!

This trip is making me want a chocolate croissant real bad.

Fun fact: Lydia predated afternoon tea as a thing by thirty years, which was to say that while she was quite familiar with a cup of tea in the afternoon, accompanying it with a tower of delightful little sandwiches and treats was new to her. So she really hadn't known what to expect (or rather, she had just expected tea) when a hotel employee, possibly judging by her dress, asked her if she was going to afternoon tea and directed her here, but she was thoroughly glad that he had!

Thor suspected it might be too much to hope that the suite's other occupants would not have noticed the lightning strike inside the other bedroom this morning, but there was nothing to be done about that, and now there was a god of thunder perched on the sofa in the main living area, perusing the room service menu and trying to decide what to order for breakfast.

Get the spiced apples.

"I will be getting the spiced apples," Thor assured his counterpart.

Raiden wouldn't say he was tired of the city, but he'd never turn down another food tour! Chocolate? Cider? This just kept getting better and better.

Anyone else read that comment above and hear Jennifer Coolidge’s voice? Just me?

When she looked into things she might want to do while in Quebec City, hitting up the Morrin Center was at the top of Eleanor's list. Being managed by the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec, it boasted a 200-year old and absolutely gorgeous library that she really needed to see. And even though it probably wasn't the most exciting idea for a date, she was glad that Kamala was willing to be dragged along into it.

But the building also used to be a jail, and there were tours that included that, too, so if the books got to boring (or, rather, if anyone could manage to pull her away from the books), that could also be an option!

Oh? What was that? No sunglasses vendors on the island that anyone could tell? Or even on the way to the food tour? Ah, well. A small price to pay, overall, for the experience of another food tour that you know Ignis was going to be thrilled to experience at every delicious turn.

Excuse you, Gladio was very good at relaxing. Just give him some Cup Noodle^TM and a good book and he could relax like crazy. But he was definitely a work hard, play hard type of guy, and working hard meant not slacking up on maintaining that sick physique, even on vacation! Moring run? Check! Hitting the gym? He was taking care of that right, thank you, and you were all very welcome for it.

As much as Prompto felt that Noctra would really enjoy the whale watching tour, the idea of a tour that long and out of the city made him nervous for if she were to start to get fussy or cranky and need to return early to take a nap or something. But that was okay, too! Because there was plenty of other things they could do a bit closer to the hotel, that still involved fish, and that included the Aquarium! Which was probably better because it was more aquatic viewing for their buck, prettier fish, and probably not as much down time where she might get bored.

Of course, at one point, she just got frustrated that they didn't bring her fishing pole so she could actually catch those fish, and Prompto was left shaking her head and wondering if people's souls really did get transferred into new people sometimes.

And opting out of the whale tours for a shorter visit to the aquarium instead meant that they'd have time for afternoon tea! Because any excuse to dress up was fun, and a particular thrill for Noctra. It was a good time, too, to work on her manners a little and a fun way for her to try new things!

Stewart managed to drag himself out of his room and was hunched over his phone and his breakfast as he tried to decide what to do while firmly avoiding most of the school related activities if he could help it.

Mostly, he was trying to convince himself that skulking along on the whale watching tour was lame, but he wasn't doing a very good job of it.
