Boston, MA [Wednesday Daytime]

Welcome to the halfway point of your vacation! But don't worry, the itinerary options were nowhere near exhausted. There was still plenty to do and see in Boston.

Also plenty of Netflix available in the hotel. You do you. The narrative wasn't judging yesterday and it wasn't about to start now.

This was definitely something more akin to Goose’s interest, learning about past military battles. Even though he had certainly never learnt about them from someone attired in 18th century attire. Still he listened with rapt attention as the guide explained the different sites and their significance to the American Revolution.

Sakaki didn't really know much about a lot of American history, but since it was clearly a big deal around here, she figured she should at least try to learn some of it.

It was fine. She was learning a lot! But she did start wishing maybe she should have gone with whales instead...

Gladio had been reading up on this exact thing prior to the trip, so it was great to have the opportunity to see some of the things he'd been reading about first hand. It helped, too, that there was definitely something thematic about it that he could appreciate, as well.

"Ahhh, zards," grumbled Amaya, for probably the umpteenth time as some other random person on the tour came up to her and started asking her questions or wanting to take pictures, "for the last time, just like I told all the other people before you, I'm not a part of the tour, I'm a part of the tourists! I don't know hardly anything about--

"...oh, what's that you say? The cannons? Oh, well, believe you me, I can tell you about cannons, don't even get me started!"

But some of them had, unfortunately, gotten her started...and now the real trick, more than likely, was going to be getting her to stop.

Dwight had been watching the back and forth for a bit with, admittedly, a somewhat amused grin. Eventually though he decided he had best interview, for everyone's sake. Maybe if it looked like Amaya was already being a helpful tour guide, it would cut down on the number of people sidetracking them every 15 feet to ask her questions.

"Hey Amaya," he said walked over as soon as the current tourist turned and headed off. "How's it going?"

"Poorly prepared and ill-informed," Amaya answered with a shake of her head, "apparently! At this point, next time someone starts asking me questions about this Revolution thing, I'm just gonna start making things up!"

But, with that complaint out of her system, she gave Dwight a nod. "You managing to enjoy yourself so far?"

"Yeah it's been good so far. Nice to get out and about and see everything." He glanced at the crowd they were with and then back to Amaya. "Want to borrow my jacket for the rest of the tour? Might cut down on some of the annoying tourists" he said with a smirk.

Amaya tilted her head thoughtfully as she considered both the offer and the jacket. "On the one hand," she said, "you're probably right, it would help, and I wouldn't even have to go far out of my way to return it, but, on the other hand, I'm starting to look forward to explaining how the American soldiers countered the British offenses with a strategic use of laser pointers and cats, so..."

She offered him a grin.

"Maybe for a little bit. Who knows? Maybe thanks to that jacket, I might even be able to learn enough so that I'll not need it by the time we're finished!"

Dwight had to admit that the idea of that version of history being told on the tour was quite amusing. But it was also probably a good way of getting them kicked out of the tour. Which wouldn't be good.

"Well we are here to enjoy ourselves, so I think it's only fair you actually get to enjoy the tour," Dwight said with a grin as he handed his jacket over. "Though I have to say, if we ever start having tours of the island for visitors I think we have found our first tour guide."

Re: Freedom Trail

[personal profile] special_rabbit 2021-10-13 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It wouldn't be their fault that most tourists couldn't seem to tell the difference between Amaya's whole very lived in get-up and the nicely presentational costumes of the tour guides that were clearly not even from the same century by at least a hundred years!

But still, for the sake of some peace and quiet, Amaya gratefully took the jacket with a nod and shrugged it on and was perfectly fine with ignoring the fact that she was practically swimming in it.

"I'm honestly surprised," she said, "we haven't had to fend off anyone with laser pointers and cats before, really. But I don't think it would even be the strangest thing to mention on a tour like that, not by a longshot."

"Ssssshhhhh!" Dwight said in mock seriousness. "Don't give anyone any ideas."

As they followed the tour guide to the next point of interest, he leaned over towards Amaya to whisper with a bit of a grin "Ya know, it's kinda bad when the tourists are getting annoyed by the other tourists."
special_rabbit: (eager talking)

Re: Freedom Trail

[personal profile] special_rabbit 2021-10-13 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Amaya had to grin at being shushed, especially since that was pretty fair, especially since she was pretty sure that if needing to train cats was part of the solution, Fandom mah actually, finally meet its match, but then the side-note and the whisper made her snort.

"I'm pretty sure," she half-whispered back, "annoying other tourists is part and parcel of being a tourist, isn't it? I think maybe some might be a little too good at that part of it, though!"

"There's always a few" Dwight quipped as they continued to follow the tour guide. "So, now that you can actually enjoy the tour, what do you think of it so far?"

There was always a certain quaintness to these historical tours for Shunsui, especially the ones with the cosplayers, that he and his very out-of-place robes had to appreciate, as if he himself had wandered off the path of some very different, completely unrelated, and very unlikely considering the context tour somewhere else.

It did make for an excellent icebreaker to anyone who might point out that it seemed he not only got the century, but the entire country wrong on this one.

Given that Irene had tagged along on this trip precisely because she found it interesting the way her country told this story versus the way that the Americans did, of course she was here. She'd even deigned to wear flats and a pair of slim slacks for the occasion, as walking was apparently involved and thus, her Louboutins probably oughtn't be.

At some point during the tour Dwight caught sight of Irene and made his way over.
"Thought I had seen you when we arrived. Glad you were able to make it on the trip after all" he said with a grin. "What do you think of Boston so far?"

"Just like how I remember it," Irene commented lightly. "Currently resisting the urge to try to do an American accent so I don't stick out."

She was mostly joking. Obviously a straight up Boston accent would be impossible to mimic, anyway.

"I'm sure this isn't the first time they have heard that accent on this tour" Dwight said simply. "I haven't been here in forever (20 years if you wanna count the wibbly wobbly time jumps). Some things have changed and others look just how I remember."

"That's the nice thing about cities," Irene commented with a light smile. "Especially older ones."

God, but she missed London sometimes.

In a momentary pause, Jon murmured to Irene, "I get the feeling that if I say anything I'd get ganged up on."

Irene shot a knowing look over before softly beginning to hum, 'God Save the Queen.'

She didn't make it far at all before she was muffling a snort.

A whale watching cruise had been tempting but the appeal of history had won out and Belle found herself on this walking tour to learn things.

Tahani was feeling very conflicted about who to cheer on here as a Pakistani-Brit. Huzzah for the colonizers? For the colonies?

She decided she didn't actually care all that much and spent the tour regretting her shoe choice and mocking the 18th century costume in her head.
