Nine Hundred Ninety-Nine Feet Below Fandom, Wednesday

The hole was still a hole. The divot in the ceiling was still not one yet. The impact on the Devil's Nest's liquor stock could maybe charitably be called a hole, though.

Happy Wednesday folks! It's hump day! That, like Wednesdays, days in general, and perhaps even time itself was essentially meaningless down here.

And once she'd carved more of a future hole in the ceiling, Rey could go over and meet some people for bowling.

"I did like this game," she said.

She played it wrong.

"This looks new, though."

"It's blacklight bowling," Annie told her, doing a little dance in greeting. There was a disco ball. She couldn't help herself. "Kind of a theme night thing."

Though they hadn't gotten out neon-colored balls for the occasion so it wasn't really the full experience.

"And I don't know how to turn it off." As if she would, though.

"There's no way we need this much electricity but at the same time we might need it a little," Rey decided.

It was one night. Or middle of the day. She hadn't checked her phone for the time in a while.

"I mean," Annie offered reluctantly, "I could probably straight-up cut the power?"

But she really, really didn't want to. Look how fun this was!

"Might hurt the generator." That was something of a white lie -- it might, but Annie was pretty sure she could just knock the lights out without even messing with the generator.

"We can get a game or two in first," Rey told her immediately. "Some people have been down here for more than two weeks, give everyone something."

"I've only been here a couple days and it's been rough," Annie told her, though she was still kind of vaguely dancing as she poured herself a shot, so maybe it wasn't so bad. "Wanna try whipped cream-flavored vodka?"

No. And that's not the point, Rey.

"No, no one ever has. But I think it's Wednesday," Annie explained, gesturing to the weird, weird flavors of vodka she'd pulled into the bar with her. "So I figured we might as well do fun shots today."

And she would not get sad about how they didn't wiggle. Except how she probably would, eventually.

"It's Wednesday," confirmed Rey, who was keeping track of such things. "Though if we're recreating Wednesdays I need to figure out which flavor sounds the best and just do one of those."

"Well, then for tradition's sake," Annie replied, selecting a few bottles to isolate so the choice was narrowed down to a Smith-style selection of three, "I've got strawberry, espresso, and Froot Loops. Which is a kids' cereal, if you haven't had it."

"Sort of like fruit but mostly like sugar," Annie said honestly. "They're super good. And their mascot is a cute toucan."

Huge selling point.

Annie poured shots for both of them, lifting one in a little toast. "Cheers! To blacklights!"

You know, trying to make the best of this hole thing. At least there was fun vodka. And blacklights.

"To those things," Rey said, clinking her glass against Annie's. "The glow is a good look for you, by the way."

"Thank you! I think I'm gonna put a bowling shirt on when this is over," Annie shared, tossing back her shot. "I can barely breathe in my top and I'm gonna end up yanking out the stitching, otherwise."

Which meant Rey might be recruited for drunk zipper-related help later.

"I'm surprised you've lasted this long," Rey admitted, doing the shot. "That's interesting."

"Fun interesting?" Annie prompted, now curiously eyeing the espresso flavor since she'd drawn attention to it.

"It's because it tastes like rainbow nonsense. We'll have Froot Loops when we get out of here. And Shooting Stars!" Annie said, eyes wide with realization. "They're finally producing it! I'll bring you some!"

"With the marshmallows," Annie said, nodding. "They had to stop making Stormfront stuff really abruptly so they're like, cranking Starlight and Maeve things out like crazy, now. Including my cereal but also, like, sooooo many things for your hair?"

Girls still got it done, just...now with less Nazis.

Her boyfriend got a restaurant, Annie got marshmallows and things for hair.

"Oh my God, I have a whole line," Annie told her excitedly. "It's all, like, scented nice and called 'WISH.'" Did you not expect Annie to do a little jazz handed flourish there? Because that was silly of you. "But, like, shampoo and conditioner, hair spray, pomade -- which is silly, 'cause my hair won't do anything with that, but I think they're probably trying to do products that mimic my old wig rather than my actual hair."

And little did Annie know that she'd have to record a music video in less than two weeks, featuring an even bigger wig.

"I don't know what half those things are but they sound amazing, Rey told her, smiling.
