Nine Hundred Ninety-Nine Feet Below Fandom, Wednesday

The hole was still a hole. The divot in the ceiling was still not one yet. The impact on the Devil's Nest's liquor stock could maybe charitably be called a hole, though.

Happy Wednesday folks! It's hump day! That, like Wednesdays, days in general, and perhaps even time itself was essentially meaningless down here.

"This feels like the academy when we learned fields," Danny said, making a face as he drank a strawberry vodka shot.

"You know, you keep telling me fun-sounding things like that and I might have to actually go try and be a legit police officer," Annie teased, pouring herself a shot that claimed to be flavored like Froot Loops.

It actually kind of was. Weird.

"Well, we gotta practice on actual drunk people, so a handful from each class gets drunk for the others to practice on," Danny explained. "I think they picked me because I was short and they thought I'd be a lightweight."

"Lightweight just means you're a cheaper date, anyway," Annie pointed out, speaking from the experience of being a lightweight and being a little tipsy after just a few shots already. "Are you gonna have us do sobriety tests? That'd be a fun way to pass the time."

Annie was pretty sure she could swing walking in a straight line, but touching her nose with her fingers? Iffy.

"Oh no, a sign of being drunk is tryin' to practice them," he teased. Also because he wouldn't pass one now either.

"And we're definitely not drunk," Annie declared with a snort. "Oh my God, what if they got down here now."

Like, she'd be so glad to see them, but it would also be sort of hilarious to be rescued while day-drinking and bowling.

"You might live it down," Danny pointed out. "But Steve would never let it go. Ever."

Again, unaware of the whole tying up a mannequin thing.

"Feel like Diego might be kinda mad," Annie said thoughtfully. "If he busted his ass to get down here to us and I'm like, 'Have you tried Froot Loop vodka?'"

But now she was going to have a gigglefit over that image.

"Yeah, but..." Danny made a super vague gesture with his shot of some random fruit vodka. "...it's not confusing with you guys."

"It's super not." Seriously, her relationship with Diego was, like, wonderfully non-confusing, and it was one of Annie's favorite things about him. She was almost never confused about any of it.

But, that being said, it sounded like she needed to pour herself another shot. Strawberry, this time. "Are things not any better with you guys?" she asked, crossing her legs and settling in for gossip. "I mean, pre-falling-in-a-hole."

"We talked," Danny replied. "About things and decided to give it a try and then I ended up here basically the next day."

Which really wasn't gonna make Steve panic or think about those raging abandonment issues.

"Oh my God!" Annie squealed, then immediately dropped her voice. "Okay. Okay, you're gonna try, though?" Like, sure, Steve might have issues, but Annie had been up there, watching him all but dig up the ground with his bare hands to get Danny back. "Like. Actually try? Once we're out?"

"That was the plan," Danny said, glancing up at the ceiling. "Unless things changed in the last few weeks."

Maybe there was some heterosexual panic! Which, admittedly, Danny was still dealing with too.

"Uh, I was there 'til Sunday, and like, we weren't really talking about this," Annie told him, "but I don't think anything's changed for Steve. He's real desperate to get you out of here."

Because he loooooooooooved you, Danny. Annie was seriously beaming over this development. (Which might have been kind of a look, under the blacklight.)

Those super pearly white teeth, yes.

"We were in the middle of a case, so we couldn't really figure it out for sure and then this shit happened. So I'm a little anxious about it all."

"Did you solve the case?" Annie had to ask. "Seriously, just the fact that you guys talked is so huge, though! And it went well."

Seriously, if Steve got cold feet or whatever once they got back aboveground, Annie might punch him or something.

"Yeah, it was a jewelry heist with one too many twists in it," Danny said, offering a hopeful little grin that it would turn out well. It was not his natural inclination to expect the best.

"We can do a double-date when we get out of here," Annie decided, having more than enough optimism for several people. "Something violent where we can drink wine."

"Oh, I think it'll end up violent no matter what," Danny assured her. Because their collective luck, man.

It was true; if you weren't being chased or blown up with Danny and Steve, you ran the risk of being shot in a restaurant with the other two.

"But competitive and violent," Annie tried, nodding. "For our amusement."

Like Annie wouldn't freak out trying to win, herself.

"You know what? That's a great idea," Danny replied after thinking it over. "So, find a bar that has, like, extreme sports where we can watch them be idiots."

"Nothing with, like, aim," Annie decided. Though depending on how this went, she might not re-voice that stipulation down the line. Namely, if she and Diego were actually on a team together. "But like there's gotta be a bar that does, I dunno, competitive arm wrestling or something."

"So we can make people cry with you when they stop entertaining us," Danny said like that was a given.

"They'll think I'm cheating if we go somewhere normal," Annie noted. "Like the mainland."

Which just meant they might find their violence in the form of an aggressive bar patron with a sense of fairness!

Pfff. Bar fights were totally a normal thing that happened.

"Maybe one of those bars with the giant Jenga sets. You know those two would go nuts to win it."
