Nine Hundred Ninety-Nine Feet Below Fandom, Monday

Guess what, y'all! There's a bar here now! Why, the hole was practically swimming in coping mechanisms things to do!

. . . Was it still day drinking if there was no external marker of time passing other than people and things falling through the ceiling?

"I kinda work here," Annie told him with a smile, setting her drink down to go pick up an ax. "So I've done a little bit. But this is also, like, the extent of my ax experience, so."

Not a lot of need to bust down a door with an ax when your hands would generally do the trick.

"Generally not. Depends on the hero." Maeve probably knew her way around an ax, actually. "And thank you."

Annie was well aware she was being teased, and he got an exaggerated curtsey in return. It was honestly kind of a great uniform, even if her tights had a run, now. "I was on my way to New York for a thing when the hole got me."

"The people," Annie answered immediately, before closing one eye and throwing her ax. It wasn't quite a perfect bullseye, but it was very close. "I mean, this shit happens from time to time, but the people make it worth it. And I can just be myself here. I like that part, too."

"I mean," Annie said with a small, teasing smile as she went to retrieve her ax, "are there really that many fires around here?"

To be fair, she herself had set (and put out!) two fires, in recent memory.

(One had been an accident, okay?)

"Okay, I hear you," Annie replied, holding up a hand. "Like, I'm glad you're here to save us from ourselves, but most of us are also pretty competent, I feel like? At least, I don't hear about a lot of fires or explosions."

A pause.

"I mean, Steve might be doing something with explosions to get us out of here." There was that.

"He's a Navy SEAL," Annie assured him. "He's got a lot of experience with them, from what I understand. I was looking into renting construction equipment, but Steve seemed way more interested in doing a controlled charge, so that's...coming."

Eventually. The explosives were coming from Annie's universe in the next couple of days, but time was hard to keep track of down here.

"And he'd probably take whatever he can get," she added. "It's pretty -- desperate, up there."

"We can get into the spaceships if the ceiling starts caving in," Annie told him, practically. She'd already thought of that! "But I also trust Steve. And Diego. And everyone who's working on this, up there." She shook her head. "Like, the explosives are kind of a last resort, you know?"

Well, there were a few, dumber plans past the explosives one, but now that Annie had slept, she was reconsidering how useful those suggestions had been, in hindsight.

"I'm sorry, do you have a better idea?" Annie asked, kind of having had it, there. "If you've got a plan to get us out of here that doesn't involve some risk to that ceiling, I'm all for it, Travis."

"Well, up until yesterday, I was working around the goddamn clock to get down to rescue you guys," Annie shared. "So I can tell you they're doing everything they can up there. And Steve's a trained professional. This isn't, like, an excuse to play with fireworks or whatever."

She adjusted her grip on her ax, holding it up to demonstrate. "Try holding it like this. And keep your arm loose." And with that, she deftly hit the target again, this time right in the center.

The superhero thing helped a lot, for the record.
