Boracay Island, Philippines, Monday, March 2, 2020

It's our first full day in Boracay, so either get up early enough to meet the scuba and parasailing excursion or sleep in and laze around on the beach/at the pool all day. It's vacation!

Well, it was Monday morning, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out where Wayne might be. Sure, they were on vacation, but all's that meant was just that Wayne wasn't cooking it. Still had to have breakfast! It was tradition!

And a good way to start the day, besides.

"Hi!" Shuri said, beaming at him over a handful of paper drink umbrellas. "How are you this morning?"

Oooh, so close. Good enough!, at least, while the situation itself was a bit different, and it was Shuri, who always made anything instantly better, that Wayne just took a drink from his orange juice (which did have an umbrella in it despite his best efforts) and answered, "Good," with the requisite "n'you?" right after it.

"I have a project," Shuri said gleefully.

"Oh, do ya now?" asked Wayne, tilting his head in intrigue.

He wondered if he should have felt more fear than intrigue, but this was Shuri he was talking to, not Nina.

Shuri nodded. "I am going to make a cocktail umbrella catapult."

Wayne squinted at her a little, lifting his chin slightly.

"Is that a catapult made out of cocktail umbrellas," he wondered, "or a catapult for shootin' cocktail umbrellas?"

"Shooting cocktail umbrellas," Shuri said, "though I suppose I can also use the material to make the device. I'm sure that Astrid and I will find plenty."
howareyanow: (hand to mouth talking)

"Can confirm," said Wayne, who took a moment to pointedly pluck the umbrella out of his glass of orange juice. He examined it a little before very carefully closing it and then handing it over as a small contribution to the effort with a nod. "I'm half-surprised I didn't get one in my coffee, too."

A coffee he was now reaching for.

"They are very pro-umbrella," Shuri said, grinning. "Is the coffee good?"

Even if it was woefully lacking in umbrellas?

With a knitted brow and a thoughtful squint, Wayne made a series of middling sounds that generally seemed to convey that the coffee was okay, passable at the very least.

"Have a seat," he offered, "an' we'll get you some. Some breakfast, too. S'no Monday morning pancakes, but it'll do."

Shuri dimpled. "Well, nothing they serve will be as good as your pancakes."
howareyanow: (big grin)

And, wouldn't you know it, Wayne might have dimpled a bit, too.

If he dimpled, anywhey. Which the rare upturn of the corner of his mouth in a smile may as well have been.

"Won't know for sure until you try!" he declared, with a nice uptick in confidence. "I'm havin' the lonnganisa myself."

"What's lonnganisa?" Shuri asked, smiling in thanks as her coffee was delivered.

She put a cocktail umbrella into it.

"S'basically spiced sausage," Wayne offered, as he cut off a piece of one of them, speared it with his fork, and held it out for her to try, if she'd like. "Like chorizo."

He figgured they were well past the point of bein' worried about any cooties, after all.
