The Temple of Hermes - Sunday

The team arriving in the Temple of Hermes had had about as much of a fun time as the team headed to the Temple of Nemesis. Despite the rough night, they had made it and the temple seemed to be in good shape. No one came here but the caretaker, who wasn't here today. It was too far out of the way for anyone to bother with it, and anyone who had tried to loot the place in the past had found themselves the victims of unfortunate accidents.

Wyatt moved into the room and crouched down beside one of the squares, looking it over. "Step on 'em and poison darts may come out of the walls," he said. "Or at least that's what happens in the movies."

"Hopefully nobody's wearing a red shirt," Peter said.

Cimorene frowned. "What does shirt color have to do with anything?"

"Marks you out as a walk-on part," Xander explained. "Which is one of the many reasons I go with plaid."

"Anybody have any ideas how to do this or do we start process of elimination?" Peter asked.

"Does the etching give us any clue?" Wyatt said, looking over at Seregil.

Seregil was tracing the picture with a finger, then glancing at the room and back to the picture. "There's a pattern here, but I'm not sure what it means or what it's for."

"Trial and error it is," Peter said. He went to try standing on one of the steps. Which was a good plan in that they now had the answer that Peter doing this made the walls start to come closer. Not at lightening speed, but still - moving walls, never a good sign.

"Wyatt!" Peter said, figuring Wyatt would know what to do as Peter himself fired up TK to try to keep the walls where they were supposed to be.

Wyatt straightened up. "What? Oh, frak!" he said, holding up his hand and focusing his power on the walls. At the same time, he noticed the door through which they'd entered the chamber slamming shut.

"I'm calling that as not the right step!" Xander, lacking anything that might help with wall-holding-back, went for the only thing that occurred to him: trying another square to see if that would stop it.

Seregil winced as that just made the walls move faster. "Okay, everyone needs to stop trying to help," he demanded, turning back to the etching. There was a pattern there that corresponded to the squares in the room....

Cimorene moved quickly to the center of the room, going over the etchings. "I think the pattern is supposed to help you figure out the way out."

"Better hurry!" Wyatt said, grunting at the strain of holding the wall back. "I'm not sure how long I can keep this up."

With one last glance between the floor and the etching, Seregil stated, "Everyone needs to do exactly as I say when I say it. We need to step on these things in the right order."

"Need any of us to move?" Peter asked from where he was still on his step. "Or do we stay still?"

[identity profile] therhimineecat.livejournal.com 2008-06-22 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"You need to step off so we can hit them in the right order." He smiled faintly. "That's the last one."

"Which one's first?" Wyatt asked. Seregil indicated the first stone, and Wyatt, still concentrating on keeping the walls from squishing them, stepped on it once Peter had gotten off his.

Cimorene stepped up the stone Seregil indicated next and loosened her sword. She would not be amused if they got out of being squished to death just to be attacked by an angry monster. "Who's next?"

"Guess that'd be me." Xander, who'd de-stepped the second the walls started moving faster, followed the pointing finger to the correct square.

"I've got next," Peter said, as he followed Seregil's directions to the right spot.

"And I guess that means it's my turn," Alex said, also following Seregil's directions.
