Reykjavík, Iceland [Sunday afternoon into evening, February 17, 2019]

Fandomites arrive in Reykjavík around 2pm, which is plenty of time to explore the city before the sun goes down at 6. Museums and shops are open, and it's a good time to take advantage of buying warm Icelandic sweaters and cute boots before we head out to the wilder parts of the country tomorrow. We won't make it back to Reykjavík until Friday afternoon, after all, and there's a ton to see here!

The hotel is all ready for us to check in as well, if you'd rather just settle in and enjoy the spa and the room service.

Let no one be shocked. There were a lot of museums and artsy places that Sabine wanted to hit, but this was where she was spending the bulk of her time, taking pictures when she could of the things she really liked.

So far she was big on Iceland.

"Imagine running into you here," noted Astrid, nodding a greeting to Sabine because they were really bound to run into each other at this place eventually.

"It's so unlike us, I know," she smiled. "There's so much here, I'm actually not sure I can get to everything in time."

"I know," Astrid's shoulders sagged slightly, and she sighed, but she had a smile back for Sabine all the same. "This is easily a couple-of-days thing, not a squeeze-in-what-you-can-before-they-close one, but at least something is better than nothing, and I"m sure there's going to be plenty more ahead. I've been looking forward to this..." She shook her head a little, looking around as if actually a little amazed she was there, "a lot."

"Big fan of Iceland?" Sabine asked.

She sort of was, just by finding out about the Northern Lights in her research about this place.

"Never been," Astrid admitted, "but I've always wanted to. My ancestors settled this place a long time ago, coming from the Scandinavian countries on the mainland of Europe. I've been there, a few times, but never here. And it's kind of exciting. It's kind of the thing my mother always talked about, never forgetting where we came from, always remembered who we were. "

And she felt guilty that she should be experiencing it without Ingrid, but, at the same time, it wasn't like she could just...miss the opportunity.

"Then this is great," Sabine smiled. "Is there anything in particular you want to see then?"

Astrid smiled a bit faintly back, but the small encouragement felt nice, fueled her a little to actually want to share what she'd like, because someone was actually listening.

"I kind of hope," she said, "we get to see an old settlement or something, some really old, historical stuff, you know? Viking stuff. And I want to see what the stars look like out here, too."

"Is there a reason for the stars?" Sabine saw enough of them from different worlds that she didn't pay much attention. She wasn't sure what was more impressive about seeing them from another country.

"I just hope there's a lot of them," Astrid said, sounding a little sheepish, figuring that was just an easier answer than trying to explain away so many night spent trying to pick whatever she could out of the LA skies. "So many of them, that everywhere I look, there's a new constellation, some story that would have inspired them all the way back then, too.

"I mean," she added a hasty second later, "the stars were probably a little different all the way back then, but it's still a nice thought."

"I like that," Sabine decided. "And it seems like you should be able to get that up here. Either that or all my research lied."

"I think your research is right," Astrid grinned a little with her assurance. "Not nearly as much light pollution here. Even just a little while out of the city back home, and it was like looking at an entirely different sky."

Then she tilted her head curiously at Sabine. "Did you do a lot of research about this place before we came here?"
seriesofbaddecisions: (there is too much; let me sum up)

Re: Reykjavík Art Museum

"Not an excessive amount or anything," she replied. "It's just a planet I don't know that well, with a bunch of different cultures and climates. I try to know what I should expect."

"Not a bad idea," Astrid said approvingly. "Anything you come across that you're hoping we get to see?"

"I feel really obvious when I say the Northern Lights, but I'd like to see the glaciers and hot springs and there's a plane crash wreckage that could be interesting, but that's lot on my list."

She saw enough stuff ruined, she could skip it. Especially when this all was going to make her a little homesick.
