Fjord stared at Fenris for a few moments, blinking. And then broke into a laugh and shook his head.

"You really would've just wound up leaving this boat to drift, wouldn't you?" He grinned, and then moved to raise the sail.

~~In a very handwavey manner, which is fitting because I know about as much about sailing as Travis, la.~~

Fenris grinned at him. "It's very relaxing, floating on a boat. I can swim and I don't tire easily. Unless it caught in a rip tide and wound up in the center of the sea, I'd have been fine."

A moment later, "Though I was really hoping you would come onboard. The owner will probably appreciate having their boat back."

Eventually.

When they were done with it.

"I know I would be pretty upset if someone set my boat to drift out to sea," Fjord confirmed with a grin. "Someone had to come aboard, make sure she finds her way back, after all."

This was basically going to be the story of his life.

"The boat is female?" Fenris asked, amused.

"But yes, of course, we must protect the boat and help guide it back to shore."

"Let a sailor have his quirks, Fenris," Fjord replied, grinning. "She hasn't sank yet," in the thirty seconds since they'd boarded her, "she's a fine lady, deserving of a gentleman's escort back to where she belongs."

... Yeah, no gentlemen present, here.

Fenris patted the railing and said consolingly, "Poor girl. Deserving of a gentleman's escort, and here you are with us."

"Well," Fjord said, "I intend to be gentle."

A beat.

"I don't suppose there are any maps on board? Something we can navigate these waters with, without having to worry about running into a sudden sandbar in the dark?"

The beaches here stayed shallow for just about forever. It was a valid concern.

Fenris looked at Fjord and raised both eyebrows as high as they would go and let his lips curve in an intensely amused grin.

He knew his friend well enough that he didn't actually say any of the retorts that came to mind. They did definitely come to mind, though.

"I'll go look," he said, smothering laughter. The door to the small cabin area was locked. He phased and went through it, hunting for maps.

Fjord's mouth opened for a moment, and then snapped shut again while he pieced together what had Fenris so amused, just in time for him to disappear through the door.

...

"Dammit, Fenris!"

Okay, it was a little funny.

Fenris returned a few minutes later with a handful of maps. He padded over to Fjord and handed them over with a small headshake, "I.. don't think they're in Common."

Why would they be? They were in Greece.

"... Nope, definitely not Common," Fjord confirmed. He sighed and stepped away from the sail for a moment in order to lay them out, trying to piece together which of them most resembled the area they were in right then.

This was going well so far, wasn't it?

A few moments of serious thought, and he was glancing back up again.

"... I've got it narrowed down to three."

They were so going to wreck this boat.

Fenris walked over to look over his shoulder. Then he looked up and at the coastline.

Pointed at one of the maps, "Not that one, unless the scale is very off. If this scoop here," he pointed to a marina-like area on two of the other maps, "is where we are now, then the scoop on that one is too big."

That.. wasn't much help.

They were so going to wreck this boat.

"That's as good a reason as any," Fjord decided. "So let's pick one of the other two and hope it's the right one."

This was a terrible plan.

Fenris looked between them, "That one's more colorful. That must mean it's more expensive and thus better, right?" He pointed to one of them.

"Well, better doesn't necessarily mean it's a better map of here," Fjord noted, eyeing it, "but... good enough for me. You're our navigator, then."

Yup. This was going to work out GREAT.

"Better is better," Fenris said easily. "So.. which way do we head first?"

He turned the map so it lined up with the marina behind them. "The blue is darker in that direction," he pointed, "That should mean the water's deeper, right?"

They'd be fiiiiine.

"Uh," Fjord said, looking dubiously at the map. "... Yes?"

Look, maps where he was from weren't generally printed in color.

He was going to just direct the boat that way, anyway.

"There's none of those dotty little bits like the other side has," Fenris said. Helpfully. Like the good little helper elf he was.

"I think dotty things must be bad."

How he said that with a straight face remains a mystery.

"I'm... assuming those are rocks," Fjord declared. "Let's avoid the rocks."

Please, gods, let him be avoiding the rocks.

"Yes, perhaps not crashing is a good plan," Fenris said dryly.

"If we follow the dark blue that way," he pointed, "it takes us around the coast. That should be pretty. Unless you want to get to deep water, in which case, go more that way. It just goes to more water and another island further out." Another point.

He was helping.

"I'll admit the other island sounds tempting," Fjord noted, "though I suppose we ought to stay close enough to shore that we can swim back if need be."

"Once we get far enough out, there'll be the matter of light to navigate by, and I won't pretend to be even remotely familiar with these stars."

"There are lights on the front of the boat," Fenris said. Fenris, that's not the kind of light he means.

"The stars are strange," he admitted a moment later, "I can always point toward land, though."

"Well, that's a useful skill to have," Fjord noted. "I have some ability to see in the dark, myself, but that ability really only goes so far."

"Same," Fenris admitted, "If need be, I can produce some white light. It won't extend past me very far." Because it would be coming from his Lyrium scars.

"Well, it's still better than a pure black void," Fjord mused. "Good to know."
