Riften, Skyrim, Thursday Afternoon/Evening

Travelers will still want to keep those coats handy, but by afternoon, the warmth of the sun has soaked into the city, making it a perfect time to explore, whether alone or in groups. As evening approaches, so will the cooler temperatures, but there's plenty of hearthfires beside which you can find a place, a tankard, and perhaps even a new friend!

"Did I scare you?" he asked, tilting his head and frowning. "Sorry. It's not too bad around here. I walked for awhile last night. It's nice over by the water. Pretty view if that's your thing."

"It's okay, just... Not a fan of walking along." Apparently. And she was going to turn so she was going to end up walking with him, so there was that. "Last night was my day to stay in."

Travis didn't mind the company. It meant he didn't talk to himself, at least.

"I walked around for awhile last night too," he told her. "Stayed out in the open, though, and was very grateful for the flashlight app on my phone."

Though, using that meant his phone was dead now.

"Back home never seemed this dark when I was out at night. If there weren't lights from houses or buildings, there were cars."

"Yeah. I'm used to that, too. Like, even when it's dark it's not really dark." And sometimes there were still monsters waiting to suck out everything about you, and there was no way to make that sound okay, even narratively..

"Exactly," Travis said and peered up at a nearby torch. "This place is...I don't know. It's hard to sleep at night. Too quiet sometimes. It means you can hear everything."

Whether it was the talking in the inn, some amorous couple in a nearby room or whatever. The last time it'd been that quiet was right before he'd died and...that meant he shivered.

"Anyway. You doing all right with everything here? Or in general?"

"Yeah," Gwen said immediately. "The trip's way better with bathrooms are indoors so I'm doing good."

Go figure that this was something she didn't get weirdly overdramatic about.

"Bathrooms that important, huh?" Travis asked, amused. "Nearly a deal breaker?"

"Nothing like going outside at night when it's freezing outside," Gwen said. "I'm a modern girl, I have my limits."

Travis snickered. He'd kind of gotten over his limits when he'd been unable to even get to the bathroom on his own. But, bathing outside was kind of horrible, yes.

"Oh come on, it gives you character," he joked. "Nothing you can't overcome once you take a shower with a light snow falling around you and the resident innkeeper walking around outside."

"And that's another thing. Call me spoiled, but generally I try not to be naked outdoors."

She didn't always succeed, due to monster-ism, but it was a goal.

"Admirable goal," Travis agreed, snickering again. "I'd actually rather not be naked outside either. "Hopefully generally trying leads to success for you and not failure."

Gwen crossed her fingers.

"This second place isn't so bad," she said, because it was easier to keep talking than thinking about things.

"Yeah, I guess it's okay," Travis replied with a slight nod. "I spent most of the day in a temple dedicated to love and marriage. That...could have been a day better spent."

Bad memories.

"...in a sense." In that he'd died, she'd gotten older and moved on and been engaged when he'd come back. "I made a fool of myself."

"No, I haven't had the chance yet," Gwen said. "But when I do, it's gonna be spectacular. I should really start selling tickets now so I at least get something out of it."

"I doubt you'll beat me," he retorted, shaking his head. "You'd really have to do something extreme to beat me. I'd be impressed if you managed it. I don't think it'll happen."

Travis weighed the pros and cons of sharing versus not sharing. In the end, he just decided to go for it to prove his utter foolishness.

"Spent almost all my money on a ring to propose to my girlfriend who was engaged to someone else. When she said no and broke my heart, I decked her fiancé."

Go him.

Gwen looked at him like she was trying to figure out if he was serious for a moment.

"So I'm not gonna be able to beat that," she said. "But I guarantee someone else has, so bright side."
