Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia [Evening, February 26, 2014]

After scouring the hotel and pulling any truly unwilling Fandomites out from under beds and out of closets, the spring break trip moves from Bali's beautiful beaches to the vibrant and bustling city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

It's still nice and warm, though, never fear: it only cools down to 85 in the evening!

Maybe it was from working in bars for the last three years, but Kitty had started finding it kind of interesting to visit them in other countries, just to see how things were different and whether there were any new drinks she should learn. So she was at MO Bar tonight, and totally paying more attention to her mozzerella fritters than her actual drink.

"Hey," Cade hissed at her. "What's a wa-goo?"

That's not how it's pronounced, Cade.

Kitty blinked. "What's a what?"

"The burger," he said. "It's not something that has three eyes or anything, right?"

"Oh! Waygu," she said, getting it more or less right. "I think it's a kind of beef? Two eyes, though."

"Is it any good?" Cade asked. "I mean, I eat anything, but it's vacation and I'd rather not eat bad poodoo, y'know?"

"I haven't had it, but I think it's the good stuff. Might as well live it up," Kitty told him. "As long as you can afford it anyway."

Cade hadn't looked at the price until that moment and he let out a low whistle. "Does it karking talk or something?"

"I think they feed it special food to make it better?" Kitty shrugged. "I might be making this up. I'm honestly not sure."

"What have you tried that isn't a month's salary?" Cade asked.

"Mozzerella thingies," she said. "I went about as cheap as I could, because I still have bills to pay."

"Or we could get what we want and just charge it to someone else's room," Cade offered.

"You do know I'm a chaperone, right?" Kitty checked.

Hanna nodded pleasantly at Kitty, who she remembered from Italy. "Hello. All this time at school, and I only ever seem to meet you in bars," she noted, amused.

"Working in one means that sort of thing happens to me a lot," she said, and added awkwardly, "...Though, um, are you sure we've met?"

"In the hotel bar, in Italy," Hanna answered, nodding. Yes, she understood by now that Kitty probably remembered Hannibal. She was also an awful person. "Doctor Hanna Lecter."

Huh.

"Oh! Sorry, you just look a little different than the last time I saw you," she said, trying for subtle.

"Do I? How so?" And that was only half being an awful person, and half wondering if there were yet another version of herself to watch out for.

Okay, maybe two-thirds awful. Three-quarters if you stretched.

"You were... more guylike?" Kitty tried. "Sorry. If you've been in Fandom you've probably gotten this once or twice."

"Ah." Hanna nodded. "I keep wondering if anybody will know me as myself. So far, it seems everybody remembers me as a man."

"So this isn't like when it happens on weekends?" Kitty asked, curious. "You've always been female?"

"Apart from the odd weekend on which the island turns me male," Hanna answered, "yes. Although so far I seem to be the only one who thinks so."

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, something like this seems to have happened to one of my students," Kitty said. "Like some alternate universe mixup. I'm sure it'll sort itself out."

She hoped. She had a feeling they were building up to something.

"Oh?" Hanna thought about it. Then she chuckled. "So perhaps somewhere there's a male version of me being asked when he stopped being a woman. It rather makes me wish that I could meet him."

"Meeting alternate versions of yourself can get tricky," Kitty admitted. "But I'm sure you can bug his- or your- friends into telling you everything. Next best thing, I guess."
