"Help the people!" Blair looked hopefully at the back door. "Maybe we could distract them and then sneak out before the monkey's notice us."

"Apes," Angela said without thinking. "The Librarian's really touchy about that one."

"And it sounds like a plan. What, um, what kind of distraction?" She peeked her head up. "There's no bloodshed. Yet."

Blair waved his hand. "Whatever." He peeked over the plant and jerked back down quickly. "Yet is the operative word."

"Okay, here's a plan. We run out into the open. You yell something loud and I'll yell something loud and then we'll make large sweeping motions with our hands. That should be pretty distracting, right?" Blair demonstrated some motions, coming very close to hitting Angela on the head.

[off to study for a bit]

Angela's eyes were as big as saucers. "Okay. But if we didn't need to do this? You will so never live this down, Sandburg."

And then she springs into action. "KOWABUNGA!"

Blair jumped out after Angela, waving his arms around and yelling "OOOOGA BOOGA!"

The people surrounding the exhibit turned and stared, including the zookeeper, who was calming handing bananas to the docile animal.

And there's a third-grade class, too, who were quietly sitting cross-legged watching the keeper -- until they're distracted by the crazy yelling people.

Angela is so embarassed she can't talk. She just sort of meeps as she covers her face and runs out of the exhibit.

Blair waves and dashes after Angela, catching up with her outside.

"Sorry, Angela. I guess they were safe this time." He stared back at the building. "Did you see that little kid? I thought he might start crying or something?!"

"It's okay," Angela told Blair, not entirely sounding like she meant it. "I mean, those gorillas did look pretty shifty."

Blair nodded. "Better safe than living under a monkey-run society, I always say. Well, I've never actually said that. But you know what I mean."

"How about we go grab a hot chocolate from that vendor over there. It's on me."

Angela sniffled a little, face still blazon-red. "True. And, you know, we could've been heroes, if things had gone a little differently."

"Hot chocolate sounds really good."

"They would have sung songs about us, seriously." Blair walked over and got two hot chocolates and brought them back.

"Okay, I got you the choice of extra whip cream...and um...extra whip cream." He grinned. "Sorry, I'm a whip cream junkie!"

"It hardly counts as hot chocolate if there's no whipped cream," Angela proclaimed. "So thank you."

Blair grinned and bounced, drinking his hot chocolate and looking around. "So have you had fun today so far?"

"I have," Angela said, licking whipped cream off the top of her hot chocolate. "It's way too much for one day, but what I did see was fun."

"What about you?"

"Nadia and I almost got taken down by the man at the FBI...but we made it out alive." Blair bounced. "It is a lot for one day. We need to have more field trips. But at night...because Angel couldn't come today."

Angela blinked at the bit about the FBI. "Sounds scary," she commented. "How'd you get away?"

She put a hand on Blair's arm. "I bet D.C. is really pretty at night. The monuments are all lighted up, and everything."

"Nadia and I had a story prepared and I faked a hurt foot." He held out one foot...then the other one and shrugged. "I don't remember which foot though."

"That's so cool. I bet Angel would like that. I should suggest it for sometime in the spring at student council."
