"They are idiotic," Josh said, rolling his eyes. "How can we fix public schools by taking money away from them? And by giving it to schools that aren't under government oversight, are in large part religiously oriented and aren't required to take all students?" Josh ran a hand through his hair. "It's not like the chairman ever spent a moment of his life in a public school anyway."

He bit into a french fry. "And Leo told me to switch careers," he muttered. "How's he doing, anyway?"

"I'm pretty sure he was just suggesting you take up bowling as a hobby," said a familiar face joining the table. "And he's doing just fine. You should probably call him sometime."

Josh stood up, grinning. "Charlie!" He held out his hand. "Great to see you. And bowling? Really?" He shook his head. "I need to start reading memos more carefully, huh?"

"Why start now?" Charlie says with a smile and gives Josh a warm handshake. "Hey Josh. What brings you back to the lion's den?"

"Day off of school," Josh said. "I decided the best way to spend it would be in a bus full of teenagers stuck on the Beltway during morning rush hour. I've clearly learned nothing."

Toby raises his eyebrows at the mention of the school. "Was it worth trading in the heartburn of politics for the heartburn of dealing with-"

Toby shivers

"-teenagers."

"If you think of them as younger, more reasonable members of Congress, it actually works on pretty well," Josh said. "You should try teaching when you get fed up with the whole 'working for the government' thing. They pay even less than the government. Didn't know that was possible."

"Hi Charlie."

She pulls out a chair so he can sit down. Reachign across the table, she grabs the ketchup.

"Field trip."

"Hey CJ," Charlie says giving her a warm grin. "How's life outside of politics treating you?"

"Pretty good. No one's made me their bitch yet...so I'm winning."

"How's that kid of yours doing? The one too big for the funny hat. Jack, right?"

"Chip...he's good." she turns to Charlie. "See? Somebody lets me call them that."

"Someone not me," Charlie says with a big grin. "You guys should have given us a heads up. I'm sure the old man would have loved to see you two."

Josh shrugged. "It was kind of a last minute thing. I didn't want to throw the entire scheduling department into a fit, especially around budget season."

He took a bite out of his hamburger and looked at Charlie. "How's everyone doing? I mean, other than the sackcloth and ashes I'm sure they're still wearing to mourn my leaving, of course."
