FIELD TRIP - the Presidium - the Citadel - Sunday

The majority of the day was going to be swallowed up by the trip to the Wards - for those who decided to go along with that, anyway. That didn't mean there wasn't time to relax on the Presidium.

Artificial night had given way to artificial day again on the Presidium, as diplomats and other high-class workers zipped across the bridges or through the sky in aircar to get to work. Plants were watered, business was tended to... and the Presidium was very sunny indeed.

[[ ocd up! and have an awesome flycam tour of the Presidium I just found. ]]

Instead, there was a group of asari tanning by the pool. They were a much more welcome sight, wouldn't you say?

"I'm just disappointed the krogan are gone," one of them was saying to her friend. "That younger one was kind of cute, don't you think?"

It's true that one could not spend all their time at the bar. Sometimes they had to eat lunch and then go spend the rest of their time at the bar.

Look, give it some time and Garrus would get his act together and go be an angel on Omega. Right now he was gonna drink and be surly, he earned it.

And here was Kaidan, coming back in for a quick steak sandwich before they left--

Doing a double-take.

"Garrus?"

Well there was a voice he didn't think he'd hear ever again. It was a surprise, but not an unpleasant one. "Kaidan. Didn't expect to see you here."

"I'm leading a field trip," Kaidan said wryly. "What about you? Signing back on with C-Sec? Thought you didn't like the way they ran things."

"No, no, I resigned for good, I'm just..." Hanging around and drinking. "I think I met one of the chaperones for your trip yesterday."

Excellent subject change, Garrus, good work.

Kaidan slid into the chair opposite Garrus. He could ask, but... well, he was Kaidan. Better part of valor and all that. "Yeah?" he said. "Which one?"

"A drunk woman who seemed determined to not do her job," Garrus said. "Seemed to think she could be an honorary turian. Little does she know that a never ending urge to do one's duty is part of being a turian."

"April?" Kaidan said.

A pause. "I mean. It could be April; I don't know her well enough if she's the type to drink on the job, usually." He waved at one of the waiters. "So is that what you're doing here? Doing your duty?"

Hell, it wouldn't surprise him; he knew Joker was already lashing out at authority about the Reapers, any chance he got.

"I was. For awhile anyway. But after the Sovereign cover up and everyone acting like everything with the Reapers never happened...well, let's just say working for the Council was the last thing I wanted," he said. "Resigning from C-Sec had been a long time coming, even before all this."

Garrus shook his head and laughed a little. "Now I'm trying to do things on my own. On one hand, no more red tape. On the other, taking the law into your own hands has its own problems."

"Do you really think going vigilante is such a good idea?" Kaidan was skeptical.

Though it was Garrus; Kaidan couldn't say he was surprised.

"It suits me," Garrus said. "Teaching wouldn't suit me. That is what you're doing, correct?"

Field trip equaled teaching to him. Though Garrus wouldn't have guessed Kaidan was teaching teenagers.

"It's just temporary," Kaidan said vaguely.

He hoped so. He was still an action guy.

"Teaching's not really what I had in mind for myself."

"Kids," Kaidan said. "They've got me playing diplomat right now." He rubbed at his face. "But seriously, what are you planning to do, Garrus?"

Garrus sighed. "I honestly don't know, Kaidan. I've got a few leads on some drug smugglers out in Wards but after I take them down...I really don't know."

"This isn't going to end well," Kaidan said slowly. "You know that."

Some days he really wished he had Shepard's skill at talking people out of - or into - anything.

"Not the first time I've heard that," Garrus said, almost fondly. "And you should know by now that I usually go ahead with it anyway."

He added the "usually" just because they both knew Shepherd could talk anybody into anything.
