Banyan Tree Resort, Seychelles, Thursday [Morning and Afternoon]

Hopefully, everyone had packed their things well and not left anything behind in South Africa, because it was time to explore Seychelles! The staff of the Banyan Tree were ready to help Fandom's visitors with anything they might need - including making sure everyone remembered their umbrellas, because while the morning was nice and clear with a temperature of 27C/80F, it was going to get up to 30C/86F later in the day, with possible thunderstorms.

But hey, there was a whole new resort to explore if the weather didn't fully cooperate!

Yes. Yes, Anakin was at the gym again, new location notwithstanding; did you really have to ask?

Alec had noticed Anakin at the gym at the last hotel, and he was noticing him again now, which told him he was probably from Fandom since I'm too lazy to figure out if they have any classes together.

So on a water break, he decided to attempt conversation. "This gym's nicer than Fandom's, isn't it?"

"It's all right," Anakin whose player is equally too lazy said, with a touch of disdain because in the end it was still a gym and not quite as good as the real thing. "There's only so much running in place you can do before it gets boring, though, no matter where you are."

He was a little whiny about that, yes.

"That's true. And the... whatever that is," he said with a gesture toward an elliptical. "I'm still getting used to the fact that ordinary gyms apparently don't have balance rafters on the ceiling."

[identity profile] nonelikemesince.livejournal.com 2012-10-11 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Anakin made a face. "Yeah. I'm not even used to getting weird looks for doing this stuff outside a gym at all yet."

Earth was so weird.

Or his family was just ridiculous. One or the other.
nottrivial: (!?: curiously surprised)

"You too?" Alec symapathized wryly. "I actually got yelled at a few weeks ago for saying I thought combat training was more important than card games."

Oh, Atton.

[identity profile] nonelikemesince.livejournal.com 2012-10-11 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The way Anakin rolled his eyes said what he thought about that.

"My dad is one of the biggest gamblers in my galaxy, and even he wouldn't say that." No, Anakin, because Han Solo knew better than to say that in a family full of Jedi and military. Also there was a war going on. "Is combat training something you need all the time at home?"

Because for as much as he resembled his father in most ways, he didn't see card games being that much of a valuable everyday skill.

"Not for everyone," Alec granted, because he didn't want to give the impression that his world was some kind of warzone or something. "But for me and my family, yeah."

Still kind of sounded like a warzone, but at least he'd tried.

"What about you? You mentioned outside-the-gym stuff?"

[identity profile] nonelikemesince.livejournal.com 2012-10-11 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Anakin nodded. "My sister's in the military, and the rest of my family . . . we always end up needing it, somehow. Even before the war started at home. Dad's the only one who hasn't had any Jedi training."

He didn't quite smile, but he did look a little bit less serious. "It's been a lot of hands-on learning since we were kids."

"That sounds a lot like my situation," Alec admitted sheepishly. "We're not -- Jedi, was it?" Weird word, but okay-- "but the training starts very young. Technically my siblings and I have been active Shadowhunters for the past few years."

He took another sip of water before adding, "So it's always strange meeting people here whose priorities aren't as serious."

"I know what you mean. I'm not used to being around this many kids --" in general, really, since he'd started his apprenticeship -- "who don't have to worry about things like this. What's a Shadowhunter?" Anakin asked, immediately interested.
nottrivial: (neu: jace why do you do these things)

Alec wasn't sure why he was always surprised that people asked follow-up questions, but then Alec was pretty terrible at understanding conversation in general. "We fight demons," he summarized, only barely managing to keep it from sounding like a question. "These runes--" he indicated the swirling tattoo-like Marks and silvery-white scars up and down his arms, which were usually covered by sleeves but not so much today given that he was working out-- "help with that."

He gave a little awkward shrug, then asked, "What's a Jedi?"

The answer that came to mind immediately was Not too well-liked at home at the moment, but that seemed like a bad first impression. The answer that Anakin actually gave was . . . well, the definition the way he thought it should be, anyway.

"We serve the Force," he said, drawing himself up a little taller, "and we use it to uphold peace and justice in the galaxy, whatever it means we need to be at the moment. Mediators, spies, historians, healers, warriors. Mostly warriors right now."

Funny, that, in the middle of a war.

"A Jedi at the gym. Somehow unsurprising," Sia greeted him, because she had room to talk.

"I could more or less say the same for you," Anakin pointed out, without sarcasm. "I'm going to start climbing the walls if I can't get back to lightsaber drills soon, though."

"It would be nice to have somewhere to practice," she agreed. "It's only a few more days, and there are things to keep us busy until then."

See if she was still saying that tomorrow.

Anakin was about thisclose to seeing if he could scrounge up materials to build a practice lightsaber and use it in his hotel room.

"I might go mountain biking later," he agreed in a distinct it's not much but I guess I'll take it tone, making a face. "Unless you've got a better idea?"
notconflicted: (hmm)

"I looked it up as soon as we got here," Anakin replied, shrugging. "It's awfully primitive, but it's something new."

Bikes that actually made contact with the ground? Really?

That was what was confusing Sia. Your cars were strange enough, Earth. "What do you do, just fly around the hilltops?"

[identity profile] nonelikemesince.livejournal.com 2012-10-11 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not even flying," Anakin told her after a momentary pause, like he hated to break this to her. (He sort of did.) "There's no engines, even. The bikes have wheels and you have to pedal to make them move."

What was that about, Earth? What?
notconflicted: (confused)

Re: Gym and Tennis Courts [10/11 - Day]

Sia glanced towards one of the exercise bikes. "Like that?"

[identity profile] nonelikemesince.livejournal.com 2012-10-11 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh huh." Anakin's expression when he glanced at the bike was almost pitying. "Only with two wheels."

No, Anakin, you may not try to soup up the mountain bike.
notconflicted: (b&w looking down)

"What are you going to do instead?" Anakin wanted to know.
