There was a slight chance of thunderstorms tonight, but when it was still practically 80 outside in February, was a little rain really going to ruin it?

It might even wash some of the glitter away. Well, probably not. No power on Earth was strong enough to wash glitter away. More than half of spring break was over, Fandom. Get out there and make some memories! Or drink-fueled regrets. Rio could accomodate either.

"It's tied," Petra reported. "I don't know what that means if something doesn't change soon." Her phone buzzed, and she looked at it and reported, "Apparently extra time and then penalties."

Scully sat down with a small smile, and nodded to the phone. "Who's giving the color commentary?" She took a bite of popcorn and considered, watching one side, then the other. "There are no ugly men on either team."

"Sinjin--he's English, big Arsenal fan, we're on a break--and Ricky, who's my Brazilian vacation special. Don't tell either of them about each other," Petra said without looking up from her phone as she texted Ricky back to ask about how penalty shootouts worked. Then she flashed a grin at Scully and said, "Just kidding, I don't think they'd care." Then she looked at the field and sighed. "I know, right, it's great."

Scully cough-laughed, and sat back, smiling. Then pulled out her own phone to send an e-mail message to Mulder.

In Brazil. Having sun and fun. No aliens in sight. WYWH.

She shook her head in mild jealousy. "A vacation special. That sounds-- decadent."

"Well, it's shorter than 'really hot Brazilian boy I met and we're having a lot of fun but it's not like I plan to stay in touch but that's okay because we're half using each other for bragging rights anyway,'" Petra said with a shrug. "I mean, he gets to tell all his friends about the American beauty queen who goes to a fancy boarding school." She slanted another look at Scully. "Don't tell him the truth about our school, either."

"As if anyone outside of the island-- or a mental institution-- would believe me," Scully returned, still amused. She sighed a little. "How ridiculous is it to want to get a vacation boyfriend?" Especially at her age.

Happy birthday, Dana Scully.

"It's totally not ridiculous, it's fun," Petra assured her. "But you better hurry up, vacation's running out."

"Point," Dana said, slightly bemused. "I suppose Brazilian men would be okay with me being only seventeen. Or I could lie. It certainly wouldn't be as difficult to manage as it is in the States, and-- wow, wait, did you see that?"

"GET UP YOU ASSHOLE!" Petra yelled at the guy on the field who'd totally just taken a total dive. "I don't know why they can't not pretend to be injured. It's like it's half sport, half overacted Shakespearean death scene sometimes, I swear."

Scully was shaking her head in wonder. "That was completely fake, and the umpire-- um. Referee. Is doing nothing! YOU ARE FINE. I AM A DOCTOR. I KNOW THESE THINGS!" Scully yelled.

"You're a doctor?" Petra asked. "Really?" Then she yelled at the guy on the field, "GET UP THE GRASS CAN'T BE THAT COMFORTABLE!"

"Yes, I am. Medical Examiner, technically. Pathology." Dana had completely lost track of who knew that, and who didn't. "Magic, djinnayah, stupid wish, voila, I was de-aged twenty years. Okay, that's better," she said, settling down as they began play again.

"And now you're in high school again, huh? I am so sorry," Petra told her. "Yeah, find a vacation boyfriend. A hot one."

"It was either this or risk Men in Black and secret labs," Scully explained. "Magic not being normal in my reality... Actually, I think it's been a year since my last date," she realized. "I am overdue." She cocked her head speculatively. "Do you think that assistant coach there is single?"

Petra considered him for a moment, then concluded, "Well, I don't see a ring. It's worth a shot."

"Why not?" Scully concluded. "Where's Ricky at the moment?"

"Apparently both of these teams are the hated enemy," Petra explained, waving her phone around a little. "I dunno. I don't have feelings that strong about any sport."

Scully snickered, and then her phone buzzed. She opened it to the message there, and laughed:

Happy Birthday, Scully. Don't get a tattoo in Rio. And go everywhere with a buddy. - M
