Copacabana Palace, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Monday - Day

The weather and hotel remained just as amazing as they had been the day before. And, as people woke up in their hotel rooms, they could see the beach look as pristine and empty as it would get during Carnival time here in Rio.

If the beach wasn't for them, there are plenty of other activities available for people.

"Well, you're in my sun," she pointed out. "You lose someone?" Like, literally lose, on the confines of the beach. She wasn't trying to get too deep here.

Anakin gave her a dubious look for that, then decided she had to mean something innocuous by it.

"If I had, I'd be looking for them now," he answered, then scowled. "There's plenty of sun, you know."

"And plenty of tourists in it," Rebecca pointed out. Whatever, she was talking to the weirdly twitchy hot guy. Even if she was getting a possibly-uneven tan, life could be worse. "Let me guess... never been out of the country before?"

Somewhere back on Yavin Four in Anakin's galaxy, thirteen-year-old Tahiri was glaring about something. Somewhere on Zonama Sekot in a different version of his galaxy, a twenty-year-old Tahiri was doing the same thing. Neither of them was likely to know exactly why.

"Not on this planet, no," Anakin answered, poking a finger into the sand, and taking the question absolutely at face value. Being a smartass about things was Tahiri's job.

"Well, it shows," Rebecca informed him, feeling quite confident that she'd just solved the case here. Nice going, Becs. "Best thing to do? Just hang out and explore until you're confident with it."

A beat.

"And maybe ease up on the... twitchiness."

Oh, now Anakin looked affronted. "I'm not twitchy," he protested. Yes, Anakin, you were. "And I'm not helpless in new places or anything like that. I just don't get the point of . . . just sitting here in the sun. What's so great about this?"

"You get a tan?" Rebecca suggested, sounding a little like she thought Anakin was ridiculous. "But look, if this is boring, there's a ton of other stuff to do. Why aren't you exploring?"

She had a point, Anakin.

She did, at that. You could tell, because Anakin's scowl got a touch deeper.

"I thought I'd try and see what the big deal is about this," said the boy who'd rather be programming some new computer routine or tinkering with a droid. "It's not really working."

"So... go out," she said, still in that same tone. "Look. I was going to hit some bars tonight and check out the nightlife. Do you--" she gave a heavy sigh-- "want to come?"

"Not really." Anakin's tone bore a hint of challenge. "That doesn't sound like much fun, unless the nightlife isn't exactly tame."

. . .

NO, REBECCA, THAT'S NOT WHAT HE MEANT.

Rebecca was visibly more interested now, yeah. "Well," she said, drawing the syllable out, "I'm sure we could find something to capture your attention."

Well, now Anakin was hoping there'd be a fight to break up.

"I was starting to think this place was going to be boring," he said hopefully.

Anakin. Stop talking. Please. You don't even know.

"Oh," Rebecca decided, "I'm sure we'll find something interesting." Good god, the misunderstandings in these last four exchanges alone. "You in?"

Anakin considered for a moment, then shrugged. "Sure. Why not?"

"Great!" Rebecca chirped. "Now. Give me a few hours to finish my tan and my paper and go get changed, and then we'll meet in the lobby at nine?"

A beat.

"And you should also get changed." JUST SO YOU WERE AWARE, ANAKIN.
