Tokyo, Japan, 2040 AD
It was past midnight when Fandom flickered into being just off the coast near Tokyo. It was past midnight, and it was pouring, water battering down on the rooftops of the island, rolling down the slanted streets and pooling in the dips in the road.
There were no dunes or landmasses seperating the island from the city this time: the suburbs, if you were going to give them such a positive description, started at the coast and spread across the land as far as anyone could see. Luckily, for the inhabitants of this future Tokyo, a randomly-materializing island was downright pedestrian.
They weren't too far from the heart of the city, though. Central Tokyo was only a few miles away; the skyscrapers were easily visible on the horizon even in the dark. It was a large, sprawling place, glowing with eery lines of neon.
It was not a place the law held a firm grip on.
The broad streets of Tokyo were covered in rain, and where they weren't congested, street races were held. Not that anyone cared: most of the population was indoors, in karaoke bars and gaming centers, in electronic stores and hotels and technology centers and private detective's offices. Anywhere to hide from the rain.
Neon signs were everywhere, showing advertisements for drinks and outfits and robots and other feats of the imagination. Banners, spread from one building to another above the streets, lit up the darkness with thick neon writing, though all of it was in Japanese.
Welcome to Tokyo. It's a nice, balmy 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Cyborgs roam the street, and nowhere is truly safe.
Enjoy.

Streets of Central Tokyo
[[ if you go anywhere specific, please mention that in the subject line. ]]
Re: Streets of Central Tokyo
So, yes. Wandering. And occasionally having a little fanboy moment when one of the cyborgs got near him.
Re: Streets of Central Tokyo
It was dark, there were way too many shadows, and no one seemed to be smiling... well, if you counted the people who were smiling like sharks after blood, then maybe, but Momoko totally didn't.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO JAPAN?!" She finally wailed, her shoulders sagging. "It totally looks like NEW GOTHAM now!" Except with more robots. The robots could stay.
Re: Streets of Central Tokyo
Of course, his evening wear consisted of a black unitard and a mask. Potato, potahto.
Nightwing patrolled the rooftops, following some cyborgs on the street. After a while, he discovered some of them had night vision implants in their eyes. "Well, I guess I'm getting a workout," he said, pulling out one of his bird-themed projectiles as he dodged a laser strike.
This was going to be fun.
Delicious Diner
At least the neon signs on the outside look sort of inviting...
Re: Delicious Diner
And so after a long stroll where he determined that this place, while more familiar and modern than Fandom, was still hopelessly behind, he found his way to the diner. It looked vaguely safe; the rest of the streets had this sense of menace about them.
He ordered something random off the menu, sat down, and started thinking about ways to make this wasted journey less wasteful.
Re: Delicious Diner
Don't you judge him.
Which would be why he hadn't noticed Ender's brother in the diner with him right away. "Hi."
Re: Delicious Diner
"Hey, Tony," he said, slipping into his friendly game face. "I owe you an apology."
Re: Delicious Diner
Re: Delicious Diner
At no point was he going to force the words 'I was wrong, you were right' from his lips, because he'd never stated anything that harshly anyway. So hah.
Re: Delicious Diner
"It does seem pretty unbelievable when you first arrive," Tony said, placing his finger as a bookmark to keep his spot in the manual. Neeeerd. "It's not a big deal."

Re: Delicious Diner
Well, barring the robots, but Peter was choosing to interpret those as an experiment that went tragically wrong or something once the Formics came along.

Be careful. Here in Tokyo, that means fast cars with faster looks might be right around the corner, drifting your way. Stand back, and enjoy the show; just don't expect them to stop for you.
Or track them down and try to get in on the betting action.
