Kohala Coast, Hawaii - Morning & Afternoon - Friday - February 25th

With only two days of vacation left, time was running out for the guests to enjoy the blue skies and warm ocean breeze of Hawaii. Luckily, there were still plenty of things to do at the resort, for anyone who wasn't worn out from all the fun yet!

Percy stared at him for a minute until he realized Bobby still didn't know about the whole son of Poseidon thing even if he'd been more lenient about telling people lately.

"You really think the fish and the turtles and sharks and eels and other sea life feel that way?" he asked instead, trying not to drop the heavy 'son of a god, look at my powers!' explanation on Bobby for the moment. "It's kind of like their playground. Their home."

He opened his mouth then shut it again as he thought about that. "Do they feel like that?" he asked finally. "I mean, I know dolphins are really smart, but if fish and everything think of things like a playground and a home, it seems wrong to eat them, you know?"

Percy pursed his lips, trying to figure out how to be truthful without freaking Bobby out about the things he did know about the water. Which, you know, was a lot.

"Do you feel that way about all animals?" Percy asked, glancing over at him. "Like cows and pigs and lambs and the other things that humans tend to eat?"

"I don't know," Bobby said. "It's kind of dishonest to say that's different. But I guess it depends on if they know what's going to happen or can think about it. But I eat meat. Maybe I shouldn't."

"Well, sharks eat people sometimes," Percy pointed out, shrugging. "I don't think they have moral dilemmas about that. It's, what's that thing called? The food chain. I vaguely remember that from a science class I took."

"But that's the difference, you know?" Bobby pointed out. "As people we're supposed to have moral dilemmas to become better. Sharks eat people cause they're hungry, but we could eat other things. We don't have to rely on what we catch. So then we have to wonder what's the most ethical way to go."

"Are you ready to give up meat and the essentials it does provide so you can just eat leafy greens and take pills to supplement what you're missing?" Percy wondered curiously.

"You can eat beans and stuff, Percy," Bobby said. "It's not that weird. But I don't think I wanna do that yet."

"Beans give you gas," Percy quipped, unable to help himself. "Girls don't really get impressed by that kind of thing, Bobby."

Bobby snickered because he actually was fourteen. "Okay, no beans before girls. Got it."

"Any girls caught your eye lately?" Percy asked curiously.

"Oh. I, uh, didn't mean that," Bobby said quickly. "There's a lot of pretty girls."

"There are. Hawaii just means to be filled with pretty girls," he said, laughing at the quickness of that reply. "And I didn't think you meant it, really. I was just asking out of my own curiosity."

"You're like Jack," Bobby complained, making a face at him. "So what about you? and the eye catching?"

"Girls don't tend to like me very much," he joked, shrugging. "Kate, for instance, enjoys calling me names. I haven't seen her lately though. Maybe she's in her room, asking for forgiveness about her name calling ways."

"Maybe you shouldn't be mean to her," Bobby remarked. He was mostly kidding. "I haven't seen her either though. And I don't call her names."

"I'm not mean to her!" He was just bratty to almost everyone. "I don't call her names either. She calls me names. She likes the name 'kid' most of all and since I'm not, I make sure I let her know that."

"You're not over 18," Bobby pointed out pedantically. "I thinkk that makes you a kid like the rest of us."

"So, you wouldn't mind if people just call you kid instead of Bobby?" Percy asked skeptically. "Wouldn't bother you at all?"

Bobby was totally a smartass in the making.

"Well, kid is better than geek or dork or dumbass," he decided.

"And Bobby's still better, right?" Percy guessed, raising both eyebrows.

"Better than Robert too," Bobby replied. He grinned at Percy. "Maybe Kate likes you so she's teasing you."

"I highly, highly doubt that," Percy said, shaking his head. "I think she and Jason are just about level on their levels of dislike for me. It's a compliment, really."

"I was being sarcastic," he said, laughing. "Don't worry, Bobby, I know it's not a compliment. They can dislike me all they want, I don't care."
