Kohala Coast, Hawaii | Morning & Afternoon | Sunday | February 20

As the group from Fandom arrived, they would immediately be met by the bright, warm sunshine of the Big Island. Sparkling blue waters could be seen off in the distance surrounded by the white sands of the beautiful beaches of Hawaii.

The Fairmont Orchid loomed close by, big and bright against the perfect blue sky. The accommodations for the group were spectacular as always. Palms trees decorated the front of the gorgeous hotel, giving it that authentic Hawaiian feel. Maybe there was a lei or two in the future of some of those in the Fandom group? You never know!

The staff of the hotel was there to greet the group, making sure everyone felt welcomed and attended to during their stay. Once the rooms were discovered and the bags were stowed, it was time to start Spring Break!

Have fun everyone!

[OCD is up! Guest Quarters | Resort Activities | Spa Without Walls | Beach Activities | Mo'okini Heiau Excursion | OOC | An evening post will be coming later on! This is up early for maximum slowplay fun!]

"I'm pretty good at freezing saltwater these days," Bobby shared. "I could probably just, you know," he made a scooping motion with one hand, "if it came to that."

"If it came to that," Warren agreed. "Right now, I'm pretty sure we're not even in past my waist yet, so I don't think it will."

At least, he hoped that it wouldn't. What were the odds of him falling in and drowning in water this shallow?

"Ready to try standing up?" Bobby asked, from where he was... already doing so on his own board, yes. Show off.

Warren wrinkled his nose a little.

"I'm going to stand up, manage that for a whole two seconds, and then fall in. And then you're going to laugh at me, and all of the girls on the shore who were watching me earlier aren't going to ever look at me again, you know that, right?"

Yes, that was pretty much how it was going to work, Warren.

"Oh no," Bobby said dramatically. "You've caught on to my master plan!"

"I'm shocked and surprised at you, Robert Drake," Warren said, attempting to get into a crouch on the surfboard, at least. "To think that you'd go to all of this trouble, just so that you can woo my fan club once I make a complete idiot of myself."

He really, really hoped that nobody was planning on surfing past him right now, because his wings were fully spread behind him. All the better for keeping his balance, here.

... Even if it would be kind of funny to see some guy get clotheslined by random invisible feathers.

"Well, then you really have your work cut out for you," Warren decided.

Okay. Moment of truth. Standing up! Could Warren do it? He was halfway there! Just a little more! A little more!

And there was some more frantic flapping and cartwheeling of his arms, but at least he was still standing.

You could hear the giggling on the shore from here.
longislandiceme: (trying not to laugh)

Not just on shore, even. A few feet away, Bobby was not doing a very good job of concealing some giggles of his own.

"There you go, dude!" he said encouragingly.

"Tell me again, why do people do this?"

Because it was apparently awesome? If he wanted to feel like he was flying, he'd just fly.

"Because it's fun?" Bobby said, rolling his eyes. Look, his own preferred method of travel was... basically surfing without the board. Or water (well, there was ice, so there was water of a sort...). Of course he'd think that.

"Yeah, if you know what you're doing," Warren countered, with another little wobble for good measure, before he figured out that it helped somewhat to bend at the knees. "Please, tell me that you fell in at least a few times, when you learned to surf?"

It would make him feel less silly, right now.
longislandiceme: (shrug)

"Um," Bobby said after a moment's hesitation. "Not really? I mean, ice-sliding's pretty much the same thing, so..." he trailed off.

"But you shoulda seen me when I had to re-learn how to skate. Falling down every five seconds. I'm still not very good at it." At least, when he was wearing proper skates.

"There's something else that I don't think I can do," Warren replied, with a wry smile and... another wobble on the board.

"I really need to get out more, I guess."
longislandiceme: (eyebrow raised)

"We could fix the skating part, at least, when we get back," Bobby pointed out. "And you could laugh at how much I suck when I have to wear 'em."

"I think that would almost make up for this," chuckled Warren.

He shouldn't have chuckled, because that was right about the point that he lost his balance and toppled over backward.
longislandiceme: (laughing)

It took Warren a few moments to surface again, his hair sticking to the sides of his face as though he hadn't spent nearly an hour making certain that it looked decent that morning, and he made a grab for his surfboard so that it didn't end up floating away, never to be seen again.

"Okay, now I know exactly what 'drowned rat' feels like."

Re: THE Beach

[personal profile] longislandiceme 2011-02-21 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Could be worse," Bobby pointed out, moving so that he was once again sitting down on his own surfboard, and then kicking to propel himself over beside Warren. "Least nothing's chasing us," he said, reaching out with one hand to steady Warren's board.

Re: THE Beach

[personal profile] wwiii 2011-02-21 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
... Bobby had the strangest way of looking for the bright side in the most traumatic places.

"What would chase us, here?" Because yes, Warren really had to ask these things, while he pulled himself back up onto the board. "Besides sharks, I guess."
longislandiceme: (thinking)

Re: THE Beach

[personal profile] longislandiceme 2011-02-21 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Looking for the bright side in the most traumatic places" was pretty much Bobby's raison d'ĂȘtre, yeah.

"Giant sharks," Bobby added. "Mutant butterflies with teeth. Dinosaurs. Or, you know, the island itself..."

Bobby led a strange life in general, really.

"You've been chased by an island?"

Warren was beginning to see that!

"Seriously?"
longislandiceme: (sheepish grin)

Re: THE Beach

[personal profile] longislandiceme 2011-02-21 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, to be entirely fair the island didn't so much chase us as just... trap and try to eat us," Bobby had to admit. "But it probably could have chased us if it came to that."

Oh, Bobby. You'd just totally earned one of Warren's patent 'you are from a very different same world as mine' looks.

"How does that even work?"
longislandiceme: (shrug)

Re: THE Beach

[personal profile] longislandiceme 2011-02-21 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Uh," Bobby frowned. "There'd been a lot of like, weapons testing and stuff, on the island? And it sort of... mutated it, until it was alive. I think." He didn't really get how Krakoa existed, even though Hank had explained it a few times. All he knew was the experience had sucked. "Alive and cranky."
