And then he facepalmed. Litterally.

"Oops."

"Hm... would something cooked in an English-owned restaurant by a British citizen born and raised be authentic enough for Sir's discerning tastes?"

Walter smirked and filched a chip off Victor's plate - the freedom fry kind, not the crisp kind.

"You know what I meant. Now hush before I scuff up your shoes or something."

"Children, children, cease fighting or I'll have to seperate you two," Pip said.

Yes, it was always fun being the eldest person/adult of the group.

"Besides, British food isn't all it's cracked up to be."

"I don't know, these Jaffa Cakes are pretty good."

"Oh now I should make the obligatory crack about French cooking - we must give them credit for being clever enough to eat garden pests, yes?"

Victor says nothing, instead trying a Jaffa cake and waiting to see how the situation would play out.

"While British food remains as bland as ever," Pip said. "Despite numerous attempts by the French to invade with sauces. That's actually the whole reason behind the great French/English conflict. We were trying to give their food sauce and taste."

"And the reason the French only have France was because they had nothing to contribute but sauce. No, I take that back, they were sauced at the time. Because as much as I love my country, I do have to give the French credit for their wines."

He winked. "And their wine consumption."

Suddenly, Victor's phone vibtrated, and he pulled it out of his pocket to check his voicemail (http://community.livejournal.com/fh_trips/6468.html?#cutid1).

"Hey, that was Parker. She said that if we wanted to send a get-well present to Angel we could drop it off tonight in room 412."

" Then we should find him something good, shouldn't we? I'll even leave the poor Frenchman alone."

Walter finished his sandwich and looked around. "Probably the sooner we get started the better."

"Yeah, but I have no idea what to get him. I don't think anything from the Vatacan gift shop down the road would exactly brighten his day."

Walter pulled a face. There was no reason Victor should know the old rivalry between Hellsing and the Vatican's people.

"I don't either. Do you think we should try for serious or silly?"

"Would some pauldrons (http://www.alchemyarmory.com/pauldron2.jpg) be in poor taste?"

"They might not be the most tactful of gifts, but perhaps they would be functional."

"I don't know, Pippi. I'm not sure that armor really says "get well soon", you know?"

He pondered a moment while he ate his sandwich. Finally, he suggested, "What about some of those silly glasses that have slinky eyeballs on them? That might be funny."

"True, but it's not very British."

"So we buy him a jumper? Or maybe a replica of Big Ben." ~~dirty?~~

"A bowler hat?"

"A bowler? We would have to get him a black umbrella to go with that."
