Backpacking Trip: London Below, Monday

There was another Floating Market tonight, so today might not be the best to stuff yourself on Hob-Nobs and roast probably-chicken beforehand. Just your traveler's advisory for the day.

[OOC: For business, she is open!]

The House With No Doors - All Day

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
For crashing, relaxing, and other things you'd do in a house, even one whose rooms aren't scattered all over London.

House - Dining Room

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
On the other hand, if you're not marketing tonight or don't trust the food there (you're missing out, though) feel free to stuff your face with as many Hob-Nobs (http://www.littleshamrocks.com/image-files/hob-nobs-combo.gif) as you'd like.

And yes, the roast chicken is really chicken. Door likes pigeons too much to eat them.

Speaking of pigeons, there's one pecking its way around the dining room today. Don't worry, it belongs there. It's also a robot, so you're not going to catch bird flu from it.

House - Library

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
For the reading of books, in chairs of rich Corinthian leather.

Well, a century ago it was rich. Now it's a little cracked.

House - Pool

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
For swimming therein.

House - Bedrooms

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
For things you do in bedrooms. Or standing on your head, whichever you prefer.

The Tunnels on the Way to the Market

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Today it's below Battersea Power Station (http://lisavalentine.files.wordpress.com/2007/07/battersea.gif) so you'll have to go up and out to cross a bridge before you get there. Up and out means taking the Underground - the real Underground, but don't worry about paying; you're already past the kiosks.

Most people shove past you as if they don't even see you, but there might be a few surprises out and about tonight.

Tunnels - the Locals

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
For any roving buskers or passing Velvets who might be heading for the Market.

[AKA wait for the NPCs to ping in! Velvets, be good. The adventure where you get to be bad is tomorrow.]

Tunnels - Mind the Gap

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Door calls a halt when you hit the right train platform, but warns you all back from the edge. "Mind the Gap!" she says cheerily, keeping a good three feet away from the edge herself. "No, seriously."

Of course, if you choose to assume she just means don't fall onto the track, and get too close...well, there's a lesson to be learned.

[If you'd care to find out why, just stand too close and ping in OOC. And hope there's a rescuer nearby.]

The Floating Market

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The procession across the bridge is like something out of a fairytale, lanterns and torches bobbing in the darkness.

Within the bowels of the building, the arrangement of stalls might be different, but the bustle of people, the shouts of vendors hawking their wares, and the smells of food and, well, people, are the same jumble of excitement and confusion that they were on Saturday.

Floating Market - Tattoo and Piercing Artist

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
A pink-haired girl covered in tattoos that make her look like she just arrived from Strawberryland is here to fill your needs. As long as you need her to stick needles into you.

[Mod your service, or ping in OOC for an NPC!]

Floating Market - Curry (well, 'Cury') Stand

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Today there's vegetable, 'meet', and 'cury surprize.'

[Mod your own or... you know the drill. Ping in OOC for an NPC.]

Floating Market - Old Bailey's Birds & Information

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Again, assuming he's around tonight!

[So wait for the man himself to ping in first!]

Floating Market - Blacksmith

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hammersmith is here to fix your broken locket or your broken sword.

[Mod your own or ping in le OCD for le NPC.]

Floating Market - Dreams By the Dram

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Nightmares? Childhood fantasies? Dreams of An Entirely Different Nature? The disturbing man in clown makeup is here to sell you all of them. Zydrate comes Dreams come in little glass vials, to be drunk before bed. No refunds if you don't like the way they turn out, though.

[Be modding your ooooown. Feel free to play out the effects later on; none of them will harm you, but they might not be exactly what you thought you were asking for, leaning toward the wacky or creepy, with maybe a side of Things You Don't Want To Admit When You're Awake.]

Floating Market - Message Stall

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Manders the Postmistress is here with her pigeons, and the sign still reads: "Any message, anywhere (as long as it fits on a three inch strip of paper). Smartest, fastest pigeons ever (unless they get et by a cat). One per day ONLY."

If you sent a message off on Saturday, you might receive a reply here today.

[This one's definitely a mod-your-own, and it's where you get to not be incommunicado. Want to send a message back to Fandom? Home? Go for it. It'll arrive by pigeon, who'll wait for a reply then return with one, if there is one. So be sure to let the recipient know so they can handwave or mod the receipt, as they choose!]

Floating Market - Shop Amongst Yourselves

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
For general shopping and handwaved haggling while you converse with your friends or roving NPCs.

OOC

[personal profile] notajar 2010-06-07 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ping here for Door/Ingress in the House, NPCs in the market or the Gap Dragon Monster!

Random Neverwhere Factoid #3: The mini-series sets up "Mind the Gap" and then never follows through, because the scene got cut. (Before or after filming, I'm not sure.) Oh BBC.

Re: Tunnels - the Locals

[identity profile] undersiders.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Five almost identically dressed, pale young women walked past him. They wore long dresses made of velvet, each dress as dark as night, one each of dark green, dark chocolate, royal blue, dark blood, and pure black. Each woman had black hair and wore silver jewelry; each was perfectly coifed, perfectly made up. They moved silently: Richard was only aware of a swish of heavy velvet as they went past, a swish that sounded almost like a sigh.

One of them might be watching you with a speculative gaze.

Velvet pinged in, Ligeia, and I'll be back after 10:30EST, but if someone else wants to play her, go for it.

And Dinah's standing by to grab anyone who gets waaaaay too close to that Gap.

"Dreams? Is this for real? Not just... drugs to give you nightmares?" Dinah had to ask, staring at the little bottles.

"Fully true, luvvie. Pick a dream, it'll be yours. 'Tisn't pharms. Just charms."

"Yeah, 'cause no way magical stuff messing with your head could go wrong." Though Priestly had to admit, he was curious about the dreams on sale, too.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2010-06-07 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nooooo lethargy. Nooooo physical effects. Noooo mental dis-com-bob-u-lation, 'cept what any dream gets," the stall owner protested. "Other-wise, you pays your money, you takes your chances."

Dinah grinned over at Priestly. "Could be fun? I don't know. It'd be nice to control what I dream, for once." She picked up a vial that said, Summer by the sea. "What do you think?"

And if she was looking at one labeled Certain Events What Happen 'Twixt Sheets... well, could you blame her?

[personal profile] lovemykilt 2010-06-07 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm just sayin' . . . this seems like a 'be careful what you wish for' kind of thing."

Also, Priestly had spent most of his summers by the sea, so he couldn't say that one was tempting. He looked over the titles of the various nightmares and shuddered slightly.

Yeah. Who would want to dream of clowns? Dinah smiled nervously at the shopowner. Except other clowns, maybe.

"Parliament? Okay, that's weird. Tire swings. ... A library?" Dinah looked at that one, intrigued. "That sounds pretty harmless."

Somewhere, a raven folded its wings, and cocked an eye at a librarian wearing pince-nez.

"Fine, but if you wake up screaming, I'm saying 'I told you so'." No, he wouldn't.
